Default Question if i messed up my tranny in my 370z

Hey guys,
I've been on the forum a while but never posted much, but used the advice i learned on the forums. But i got in a situation today that i need some advice.

I was driving down to get some food and I turned into a mall and was driving around 10-15 mph. In my idiotic state of mind while driving i put the car from Drive into Park . I heard a grinding noise , and in a quick second i put it back into drive. I drove around for a while and didn't hear any other noises or anything awkward with the car. Do you guys think i might have messed up something, if so what should i check for or did i get lucky and didnt F anything up...

At low speeds should be fine.

yah, i think your exhaust is going to fall off.

i think you're fine. im kinda surprised nissan did not include a lock-out feature at such speed... that's quite fast to jam the gearbox into park.

im sure it didn't help the transmission, but you probably didn't do any significant dmg to it. Ken, I think there's no lock out for that because in some ways, its a last ditch effort if for some reason you can't stop your car; usually throwing it into park will cause the car to stop.

No worse than us manual drivers putting the car into gear without pressing fully on the clutch... *crrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr*. Only happened to me once even though I hated myself for it, if you don't make a habit of it, the car will be fine!

Eh, I'm certain that wasn't healthy for the trans. Hopefully it didn't actually engage the parking pawl (but that action may be manual and not electronically-controlled).

How the heck did get it from Drive all the way to Park? You would hit reverse before going into park.

Some indiot kid from my high school tried to do a "J-turn" in his Cherokee and blew up his transmission. Not exactly the same, but never a good thing to shift like that. Nissan should have staggered the gate more.

I did this same thing to my wife's 2010 Toyota Rav4. I think they must have made some changes after the whole Toyota gas pedal issue. lol The whole situation was bad. I had a complete brain lapse. I thought I was down shifting in the Z. Before I realized what I was doing I put the car in park and itmade an awful noise. I was only going 10 mph or so it came to a complete stop pretty quick. It's been fine since. But I beat myself up over it all day.

toyota probably now has an internal qualification process where they take their cars from 55mph and slam into park. 5 cycles pawl must not break. hahaha.

I'm pretty sure you cannot put the car in park unless you step on the brake first. If you could put into park while rolling, the rear wheels would lock up.
