all companies have a similar technology, honda has ivtec and what not, but where vvel differs is that it allows the timing and the lift of the valves to be adjusted infinitely by the ecu (as opposed to only variable timing using cams). This leads to better fuel economy as well as more power when needed but as you can imagine its quite complicated and hard to modify. There is potential but its all locked up.
