:icon17: Hey, that's what I'm good at! Hell, a valet tune would be too much for my commute home. |
You can't eat applesauce and drive a MT as easy as a AT!

*Manuals still rule Formula 1
Quote:
A torque convertor uses fluid dynamics to transmit torque and will never be as fast as the mechanical clutch (never say never), especially when it is hydraulically activated. Perhaps in the future a fluid will be developed that will have properties that allow instant torque transmission but as of now that is not an option, so the mechanical clutch rules. Here is an interesting article and video that explains the F1 clutch. Enjoy! The F1 clutch in detail Comparing Automatic and manual transmissions Torque converters explained |
F1 outlawed them from using AT, so they make them as close as the rules will let them.

All these automatic guys secretly want their cars to be manuals. Just admit it already. No one that owns a manual has to defend it, it's the only way to go when you own a sports car. Automatics are just lame.

F1 outlawed automated shifting, not ATs

F1 outlawed the automated shifting and required driver input. Check out this article in Car and Driver about the 2015 370Z Nismo seven speed automatic transmission. |
Last I checked the viscous limited slip diff uses fluid as a coupler. You manual tranny guys seem to think your **** is one solid mechanical link to the rear wheels. You are wrong. I know I'm reaching here but the whole concept behind the mt vs at debate is that third pedal and not the clutch(es) involved. And if you really want to get technical, the 7AT has 32 clutches. So if the argument is over how power is transmitted, keep walking. And I'll repeat it again... Torque converter lock-up happens from 2nd through 7th. So on a base model with no VLSD and a 7AT (similar to what I had) you wind up with a highly desirable solid mechanical link to the rear wheel. Even though the sport gets power to both wheels, as long as you maintain traction there is no difference in whether one or two wheels get power.
Now, if it's about stroking that phallic symbol in the lower console and a third pedal, now we're making some sense because we are all ghey here anyway. Presto loves my ****. Ugh. I hate these threads. When I get bored I always come crawling back. And all I wanted was applesauce. :/ |

My wife wanted the MT. I guess that makes her more of a man than any of you AT driving pansies. Good thing I don't mind the :superghey:

Not all AT are as good as this one. My DD is a Audi TT with AT and it not good when shifting it and my wife's Veloster Turbo is the same way. I think it's the rev matching on the 7 AT that makes it work so much better. You can't do hard downshifts in the other cars like you can the Z so you can't drop into the top end of a gear.

Would it downshift at close to redline? My other cars will not do it like the Z does.

Haha yesssss it will drop into a hard red line. Do it all the time when making passes on the freeway.

I made the mistake of buying a Mustang with an automatic transmission. Now that I have the 370 6MT, I'm extremely happy. :-)

I find it funny that the car I traded in for the BMW was a 2008 Mazdaspeed 3 with close to 400whp. I did all the work and tuning to the car myself. Beat the hell out of it everyday and I never had on issue with it. Stock block, stock clutch, traded it with 83,000 miles and it was still running like a champ. Although I did forget to tell the dealer it ran on a mixture of the E85 and 93 octane...:rofl2: |
