It seems Nissan is trying whatever they can to make money these days. In a down economy, the resort to pushing their own oils with FUD. Just as with the GT-R and the "voiding of the warranty" by using non-OEM oils in the transmission, Nissan is really opening a Pandora's box with the law suits that will surely ensue.

The Magnuson-Moss Act clearly states that there can be no tie-in sales (i.e.: you have to buy our oil or warranty is void) without written consent from the FTC. Nissan does not have this, hence the reason why they are using FUD to push their oils. Though, they have tried to say, in the GT-R manual, that usage of anything besides OEM oils will void the factory warranty, they have not yet done so. When push comes to shove, Nissan knows they are blow-hards and that they do not have a leg to stand on when it comes to requiring their oils for warranty.

That said, Nissan also has contracts with oil companies (Mobil 1 for engine oil in the GT-R, Nippon (or Eneos) for oils in the 370z engine and GT-R transmissions) and they are doing their best to live up to these contracts by, again, FUD. Shame on Nissan. There are much better marketing strategies for making money. How about standing behind your product so you have a larger market base? What is sad is, Nissan is even pissing of the true enthusiasts with their new bullshiz.

i went in to get my oil changed this past weekend and they just put in regular 5w30, i didn't get any hassle from the guy. this was my first oil change so i think the following one will be where i start with ester or some sort of synthetic. redline seems to be the one many use on the forums here.

I love it how everyone dismisses nanoparticles as hype but then they all suck on the Redline hype like a swollen titty. Will Redline perform better than Mobil1? Amsoil? Meh.

LOL, my dealer didn't push Ester at me at all, the service mgr said "just use regular 5W-30". I told him I'll be using the Ester and he said, yeah, it's good oil.

Well, I didn't choose Redline because of any hype. It's synthetic, ester-based, and more readily available than Amsoil. I've been using Mobile 1 in my wife's car and figure I'd use that in the Z as well if I ever had trouble ordering Redline.

As for swollen titties, sure I'll suck'em

Didn't Nissan develop their oil specifically to eliminate VVEL noise?

Mobil1 ftw! I use it in everything from my lawnmower to my other vehicles, including my motorcycles. If I add up total mileage on my other 3 vehicles, I come up with approx 400,000 miles with no internal engine issues (knock wood).

edit: and that is the standard Mobil1 I buy at Costco.

Has NIZMOZ ever not caused controversy in a forum. For God sake, he doesn't even have a 370Z.

In other news, their ester is recommended but not required. And Redline is ester based in the first place so it shouldn't be an issue at all. If anything it should be better.

Ester based oils tend to have issues with moisture absorbtion. Sometimes a PAO oil with Ester additives is better.

I think people have a right to post their opinions.

It has been proven already by dozens of people in here that the car runs fine without using nissan's $12/qt magical ester based potion. I'm switching to redline on friday. Early oil change since the dealership apparently couldn't figure out how to tighten a damn oil filter.

"How many Nissan mechanics does it take to screw in an oil filter?"

I find this all hilarious. My Nissan service manager didn't even know the Nissan ester oil existed. They use Mobil One. I think I'll take 'em a quart next time for fun. They're missing out.......

I just changed my oil today and they tried to sell me the ester and I asked for just a good syn oil but they said it was like 12 bucks too so I went and bought the stuff myself. I got the royal purple (5 QTs) and a KN filter for 43 dollars, at oreilly auto, they had a managers special on it for 39.99. Went back to Nissan and they charged me 12.50 for labor and thats all. I also had them look up the TSB, and guess what........

they found it and orderd the parts. hmmmmmm nice. Also had a good talk with the service manager about the GTR, he said he has some leeway on voiding the warrenty on them as long as it doesnt overboard. They had 4 GTRs on the show case and he said there are 11 in the city.
