Shortened output shaft play

Curious what everyone has done that shortened their drivers side shaft when ditching the vlsd? It fits right in but doesn’t lock in..slides back and forth. When I removed it

It fits right in but doesn’t lock in..slides back and forth. When I removed it from the vlsd it had no ring or anything locking it in place? Cut 1.7 inches off and put it into a Wavetrac.
