Default 7AT Stalls in D or R

Hi guys,
Found a couple of posts on this but nobody updated what the solution was.
My 2013 7AT 370z has started to stall (or shudder and recover) when put in D or R.
It first started happening if I braked hard, then came to a stop, and I found if I accelerated hard it went away - for a while. Now I am getting it when I first start the car for the day which wasn't the case before.
I have changed transmission oil twice in 10k so gearchanges are fine. I used to have the seemingly common 4-5 change issue but that was resolved with first trans oil change. After I got this new issue I changed it again but it didn't resolve the issue.
Some of the threads I read indicated a potential issue with TC getting locked.
Is there anyway to identify this?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like you have a Torque Converter on the way out. Another thing to do is to clean the throttle bodies. They may be dirty causing the stumble due to lack of air from all the gunk.

Assuming that to change the TC they need to drop the gearbox all the way out, does it require engine drop as well or is gearbox able to come out on its own?

If indeed you were diagnosed to have a faulty torque converter? A bad torque converter can and will damage your transmission. Replacing a transmission new or used will not be a cheap fix. Bad torque converters lead to overheating, fricition, and severely degraded transmission fluid. If left not replaced even more damage will occur to the transmission. Transmission will need R&R to replace the torque converter. Be sure to completely flush out all transmission fluid and replace with proper transmission fluid since the transmission fluid will be degraded. Bring your Z to a reputable shop you trust. I would be looking preferably for a transmission shop or driveline shop that has worked on our cars before search and you will find. Definitely check out your throttle bodies first that would be one of the first things I would check and clean them as best as possible.

Any shop that specializes in automatic transmissions will be able to tell you, from a quick drive, if it's most likely an issue with the torque converter. Replacing the TC just requires a drop of the transmission and is only a few hours labor in a proper shop.

I did it myself over a weekend on jack stands in my garage with limited mechanical knowledge.

Big problem I have in Dubai is finding a reputable garage, there are so many cowboy rip off merchants here. Also there are no trans specialists that I can find.
I cleaned MAF and that had no effect, so throttle body next.

Default Closure

So now I have a working transmission.
Unfortunately for me MAF and Throttle assembly were not the issue.
I took it to a garage, and when they removed the sump there was clear evidence of metal shavings on the magnets. The clutch plates had started to disintegrate and of course there was now metal shavings in the valve assembly as well.
So they did a gearbox(transmission) overhaul which involved plates, valve body, sensor and some other consumables.
It came to 14,800AED which is about 4000USD (incl. labour). Ouch.
But now the car drives well. For info the car had 150k km on the clock, still I would have liked the transmission to last longer than this.
Anyway I post this as often these types of posts don't get closed with what the outcome was.
Happy z'ing.
