Quaife LSD install advice?

Just picked up a Quaife ATB LSD, thinking of doing the install myself. Pretty mechanically inclined so not to worried about it. I have a base model 6MT, was wondering

Post Quaife LSD install advice?

Just picked up a Quaife ATB LSD, thinking of doing the install myself. Pretty mechanically inclined so not to worried about it. I have a base model 6MT, was wondering if anyone else has done this same install or similar and if they had to do shims or something like that, and what to look out for. Any advice or tips would be great. Thanks.

Make sure you have the right stub axles. Won't know if you need shims until you crack it open. I think for most people that know what they're doing it's not too bad of an install.

Not a Quaife install, but a detailed write up is always useful to see what you're getting into: DIY - Limited Slip Differential Install

Thanks man. Yea as far as stub axles go, I should not need any, Z1 and Quaife say that if you have a Base model and Manual trans none are required when upgrading to an LSD. But as you said shims we wont know haha.

If you have the sport model VLSD then you need to replace one of the stub axles. If you have the base model open diff, it already uses the correct stub axles on both sides. Good luck on the work

You need a dial indicator to measure backlash before you remove the carrier and after install. The ones that I have measure all read between .003" to .006". You should also do a pattern check on the gears before and after install. When you remove the shims. Use a mike to measure the thickness. If they are the same thickness, then it doesn't matter what side they go back in. If they are different thicknesses. Install them back in the same side they was in. Then measure your backlash. If it's too tight or too loose. Switch the shims side to side and remeasure. If the backlash is still not in spec, then you need different shims.

When installing and torquing the bolts for the ring gear bolts. The lock-tite goes on the threads. The lube goes under the bolt head flange, not on the threads. It's confusing the way the manual has it described.

Was leaning towards a Wavetrac which requires having both stub axles replaced on a base. Curious if you looked at it and went Quaife instead and if so for what reasons (other than not having to buy the axles).

yea I looked at almost every LSD for the 370z before getting the quaife. seems like the best all around option. Ease of installation, Quality product, best all around diff for street and track. seems like a great choice to me. nothing caught my eye like the quaife did.
