Default (New Car) Need help with New Mods

Hey guys,

I just picked up a 2016 Nismo Tech Manual - I'm not a big car guy (like knowledge wise) - I would however like to do a few bolt-ons for this car.

I traded in my 2013 Sport Tech - and did nothing to that car.

I've already got AEM short cold air intake... I'm looking at Berk HFC - and what else?

I would go SC if I could afford it - just can't flip that right now. Looking for the best bang for my buck. I've read multiple forum posts around here - that deal with similar situations, but they all seem old -

Any new takes / suggestions from the PROs would be much appreciated. Thanks all!

read the threads in the Exhaust/intake section, there is much knowledge here

start by selling that intake and going with a Stillen G3 or other long tube intake

your exhaust setup depends on what sound you want and how much trouble your local smog folks are gonna give you

if your area is lax, a long tube header and good exhaust is gonna be the limit of bolt on improvements

if sound is an issue, Fast Intentions is the way to go, with 18 inch resonated exhaust and RHFC

after that you need to decide what you want to do with your car suspension wise
there are short crappy fixes like Swift Spec R springs that will get you lower but thats about it

or you can do it right and get some good coilovers, SPL parts suspension, and as aggressive a wheel setup as you'd like

Get a true cold air intake. Short rams are prone to heat soak. Although they sound aggressive, on a hot day they may be hurting performance. If you are a dual exhaust fan, go Fast Intentions. If you are a single exit exhaust fan, go Tomei or Z1. To me, intake and exhaust are where you start. If you also do test pipes or high flow cats, I would recommend a tune at that point.

First off - thanks guys!

So you do not recommend Short Intake? I was hoping to get by with that - I didn't really want to cut the body of the car :P

And I'm guessing AEM - not a good brand... Oi, thought they were.

See no knowledge.

And I definitely have hot days, I'm in Tampa, FL.

Short ram intakes are no good. They just suck in hot air from the bay. And you dont have to cut the car body if you get a Z1 cold air intake.

i wouldn't spend another damn penny until you've read extensively

and long tubes don't require cutting unless you're getting the Z1 race upgrade

Motordyne M370 upper plenum is also a bolt-on you should consider.

it's a terrible bang for the buck part

thank about what this guy is asking and the level of modification he's at

the plenum isn't gonna do anything worthwhile for him unless he's at full bolt on and tune

don't just throw parts out at him - think about it first?

it's like recommending him some toyo r888r's or hoosiers at this stage

I know Bolt ons aren't worth the money / upgrade to most.

Like I said, I just can't afford the SC right now and I'm not hardcore about speed, I don't have the time. I have a family and I work 6 days a week.

I'd just like to put a few mods on my car that specialize it a bit ..

Would like to get my feet wet with car projects. I've done very little with cars, but I'm highly trained in building and engineering.

You're at the right site. Two years ago I had basic mechanical skills, could change oil and flat tires, and that was about it. Now I'm.. fairly competent. Learned it all from this site. Lots of knowledge here. Ask questions and you'll always get a thoughtful response from at least one person.
