Yes, definitely Z1. Buy a 34 row. You can always throw on a blockoff plate in the winter.

I went with a 25 row thinking I didnt need a 34 row bc I dont track the car. A year later I ended up buying a 34 row. So save yourself the expense and go BIG.

Since you have the stock oil cooler sandwich you'll have to use a shot oil filter if you arent already. Like Mobil1 1008A.

The longer filters can technically fit. Mine did. But I'd have to loosen the hose fittings to the thermo plate to get the filter off and a new one on. Not worth the hassle and subsequent seepage.

Having had a 19 row Mishimoto oil cooler back in the day the AN fittings were anything but durable they leaked and the sandwich plate leaked over time. I have had quite a few different brand oil coolers over the years and the out of all of them the only oil cooler that I installed on my Z that never leaked was the AAM Competition S-Line oil cooler and fitment was excellent. An oil cooler is there to do one thing and that’s lower your engine oil temperatures.

I did end up swapping in Aeroquip braided stainless lines and fittings. No leaks so far but OTOH the Z hasn't been out of the garage since...

Now would you mind and explain what a 25 Row or 34 Row is? And where can I get a blockoff plate? I'm assuming that's just strictly for the Winter, don't want toooo low of a temp lol. Also do I HAVE to use a longer size oil filter? if so, why? And I know they should fit, like the OEM Nissan 65FOE can be swapped with the OEM 9E long filters but do the filters make a difference?

The rows are the size of the oil cooler. They seem to mostly be 19, 25 and 34 rows. You make the blockoff plate yourself. If the oil won't get warm enough, make a plate to cover part of the oil cooler in the winter.

Make sure you get one with a thermostatic sandwich plate, or the oil will never get up to temp.

Can I ask you what a thermostatic SANDWICH PLATE?? I'm on Z1 and theres an option to get one, what is it and what does it do? And is a blockoff plate necessary though? What would the blockoff plate do? Sorry if I'm too extra :/

The sandwich adapter goes between the oil filter and the motor, with lines running into and out of the core. That's how the cooler gets fed oil. A thermostatic sandwich plate had a temperature controlled valve in it that blocks most all of the oil flow until the oil heats up. That way it can still get up to temp. It's like the thermostat in your cooling system. The blockoff plate is only needed if the oil is getting overcooled in winter. It just covers part of the cooler to block airflow to it, and raise the temp of the oil.

A thermostatic plate is a thermostat, allows more or less oil to pass to the cooler. Just like your engine coolant termostat.

I have a Z1 34 row with the thermostat. During the hot GA Summers I was running around 220 degrees with the stock cooler. Since the install, she runs between 180 and 190 depending on how “Spirited” I’m driving that day.

Cruising the freeway at 70 - 85 MPH in 96 degree weather is usually locked at 180 degrees.

Money well spent.

-What happens if I don't run a Thermostatic Sandwich Plate?

-If I do run a Thermostatic Plate, from my understanding the Oil Filter is on the Thermo Plate, and the Thermo Plate is connected to the STOCK Oil Cooler?

-How does the Z1 Cooler work? So during the Winter how does the Z1 Cooler shut down to get up to temp? Does the stock oil cooler do the job to get it up to temp and THEN the Z1 Cooler kicks back on?

-When the Z1 Cooler shuts down, do I still have oil in and out of my oil filter? Just asking because Ive seen a picture on Google with the Lines running out of the Thermo Plate, so if it shuts down, am I "filterless" until it kicks back on when up to temp?

-Also why would I need to change Oil Filter types? Why cant I use the OE Oil Filter? And if it has to be changed, which brand filter would you recommend?
