I agree - If Mobil1 5w30 works - Why change to another oil type?

Because they want to sell Nissan oil and because they get a good $$$ price for it for buying bulk.

Also, they can just stock 1 brand of oil. Maybe Mobil is not giving them a good price break on bulk and it doesn't say NISSAN.

I figure most of it is for $$$$ and some for marketing.

If we take the average, non-mechanical minded driver, and put two oil containers in front of them, Mobil 1 and the other NISSAN, they will most likely ask for the Nissan, just because it is made by the OEM.

Throw in the nifty Salesman ( which most service managers are now) and it will be easy to pitch whatever you are going to make lots of money on.

The $h*t they throw at people.

Actually, the R35 Uses mobil 1.

All other cars use OEM Nissan 0W-20 . why other dealers sell it for so much is beyond me. However the 370Z should still be using 5W-30 ,Motul 5W-30 will work just as good as the OE Stuff, which works just as good as Mobil 1.

if you are tracking your car it is very likely you are using on oil cooler so Mobil 1 Racing, Motul 300V, or Torco SR5-R will all work well. street cars will not see a difference.

However they probably screwed up, put the wrong oil and tried to cover it up. Next time don't let them talk you into keeping what they put in there. it's not your fault they made a mistake.

R35 uses Ow40 mobil 1? Stocking that just for GTR, is not going to bother them since customer will pay through the teeth for it. So, you have basically said what I said. 0W20 will work for everything else. Need Stock 1 oil and save money but charge customers more.

I agree 5W30 for 370Z. ONLY.

Well I've put a couple of weeks on the new oil & I don't see much of a difference in the two. The temps here have been running in the 85 - 90 range. I've done some city driving & some highway. Temps seem to be very close to what they have always been. If anything they might be 1 to 2 degrees lower. The only real difference I see is that it takes a lot longer for the temps to come up. There seems to be a difference in opinion as far as 0w20 vs. 3w30 with the members posting here. I guess I'll just let it ride for awhile & see how it goes.

Ive always brought my own filter and oil whenever i feel the need to use their inspection printout (tire wear, pads etc). 10$ in labor and a decent wash after. My first ever oil change from them with my used Z was a half and half castrol stuff and I felt like i was ripped off for the price (like always) i paid -or could have paid if i supplied my own and have em do it.
My dealer doesnt carry the special nissan sauce..ester? which they said would run about 120$.

I have used 0w40 once or twice in my Z and G.. only difference was the same as you, felt like it took a little longer to bring up to temp. After my 19 oil cooler install, I went back to 5w30. Temps still come out slow even with about half of it blocked off.

Back on topic, OP, do let us know if any problems come up.

I plan on keeping a close eye on it. I'm still not convinced that this is the best answer.
