Default Need Help with a differential problem!!

So about a month ago my differential bushing blew leaking fluid all over my nice shiny exhaust. I went to Z1 and bought the front and rear bushings to swap out last Sunday. I got everything thing else unbolted ready to go until I got to the bolt inside the rear bushing. It's like this thing was welded on there. I couldn't budge it with a breaker bar so I sprayed some PB Blaster on it and still couldn't budge it. Well I ended up stripping the bolt out and now I got some deep well extractor sockets trying to get it out and all I'll did was destroy bolt. How else can I possibly get this thing out!? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Did you have the weight of the rear diff hanging on that one bolt? It would of been wise to keep some bolts finger tight to help support the diff so that the rear bushing bolt would stay strait and not cocked to easier extract.

I would torch all that rubber around the bolt out with a torch, then try and wiggle the diff out if possible. Removing the bolt outside would be a lot easier. If you are not able to remove, then your only choice is to cut it shorter. Remember to leave something to grip on to so you can remove it from the Diff itself. Maybe even weld a bar to it then just spin it out.

I found when having to cut hardened bushing bolts on my Pathfinder that carbide metal cutting blades for a reciprocating saw worked very fast I.e. 30 seconds without forcing the saw. The blades made by Milwaukee sell for about $28 here in Canada but cut ten times faster than a bi-metal blade and last a very long time. Might be worth a try. Using a torch is very dangerous, messy and many times damages things nearby such as paint, hoses wires etc. Hopes this helps.

I had the jack under the diff raised slightly to support the weight. I mean it's like someone at Nissan. decided to use a whole tube of loctite on it!! ha
