If you're referring to hard street driving, 5K miles is probably still fine. Hard driving at the track is a different matter and will vary significantly based on multiple variables like your driver skill, car mods (oil cooler mainly), and environmental conditions.

If you are seriously concerned, you need to start doing an oil analysis from Blackstone every oil change. They will give you an answer that is specific to your car with actual scientific data behind it

Drive it and send a small sample for analysis on a regular basis (eg. every 500 or 1000 miles) to a lab like Blackstone, see how the oil fares with your driving condition.

Don't forget to send in a sample of brand new oil for reference or control purposes.

What JARblue and POS VETT said. UOA is the only way to tell the true condition of your oil. X months/miles are only rules of thumb and may not apply to your situation.

You should be fine for over 4k miles or more. For the last 36k miles I have been doing UOA on redline 5w30 with a change interval around 3500-4k and never has it show signs of breaking down. That's with stop and go NYC driving and some track days.

I'm surprised you guys do your oil changes that often. I just looked through my owners manual and it states to do changes every 8000km (5000mi). And that is based on, if I'm not mistaken, conventional Nissan ester based oil. With a synthetic, you shouldn't even have to think twice about changing the oil before 5000 miles.

I've done UOA after 2 track days and 5k miles and blackstone always reports that the oil change interval is fine. My analysis have always been high on silicates for whatever reason but that variable has always been high on my engine.

Here you go, dug out my old oil reports for you. Most of my reports are done either after a open track day or a skid-pad drift day or two so they should be harder on the engine (thus oil) than typical use.

Also, keep in mind that the report shows when the mileage on the oil when it was submitted NOT when I actually changed the oil. My intervals usually hover around the 5k - 6k mark. The two reports also reaffirm that 5-6k is a good mark for changing your oil.
