Default Possible fuel pump failure

I had what I thought was fuel starvation today. Car died on a right hand turn. Pushed it to the side of the road, let it sit for a bit then tried to start it again. It would turn over but the rpms were low then quickly die. Checked fuses, disconnected the battery and the same thing. Towed it home and how the starter engages and cranks but it won't fire. Anything else to check before it goes to the dealer. Oil level was fine, no leaks, no smoke or odd noises. I don't hear the fuel pump prime when turning the ignition on too.

Buy/borrow an OBD scanner and see if the car has thrown any DTCs. If you can no longer hear the fuel pump, you are probably right about it being the problem.

How did you check the fuses? A visual check is not very accurate. Use a voltmeter or ohmmeter to check.

I'm in the same boat as you, was running fine but just didn't want to fire up a few days later. I can't hear the normal wine from the pumps and it's not throwing an codes. I am hoping it's something simple like a relay, checked the fuse already. I do have the CJM Road Race setup so I think both pumps would need to die so I wouldn't here the noise which makes me lean towards an electrical issue. But right now I have no clue what's causing it, I will have it towed to the shop that did the fuel pump install since they know it best this weekend, hopefully they can resolve it quickly, missing some nice summer driving days.

Try adding a gallon of gas. If you fuel starved the car from a right hand turn and it died, it often will not start again no matter how long it sits, unless you add a gallon of gas.

If all the fuel has sloshed to the driver side of the tank, the pump on the passenger side has no way to get that fuel to build fuel pressure with. If you add a gallon, it naturally fills on the same side as the pump. Only once fuel pressure is established again, does the siphon system begin to recover fuel that has sloshed over to the driver side.

If it fires right up after adding a gallon, you just experienced your average fuel starvation. If it still doesnt run after adding a gallon, then you want to test your fuel pressure. If no pressure, then you have a dead pump. Easy to change out yourself BTW.

If the pump inside the RRP dies, then even if the stock pump is still working, the car would not run. But its pretty rare that a newer fuel pump dies. Most likely a wiring problem or an in-tank hose issue.

Most likely fuel pump. My gas gauge stayed at half tank reading and I thought I had gas. Z died on me at the car wash and I tried every single thing possible except putting gas in it and it turned on. I took it to the dealership and replaced it under warranty. A lot of fuel pumps going out on our zs

I added a few gallons and nothing. No codes either. The Guage is showing 2 dots under full but the day before the guage was all over the place. Only read a few gallons of the 10 I put in, dropped to a 1/4 then, while driving more dots came on until I was over half a tank. Ran fine the next day till it shut off. It's still under warranty so that's my next move. I drained the oil to be sure and no shavings. I think the battery is low now but after letting it sit for a while, I started it again but it didn't fire. It turns over but won't start. I'm glad it happened on a small road and I had a friend with a trailer near by.

Sounds like a wiring (or level sensor) problem.

Hopefully. I'm not hearing the fuel pump prime either. I should know later this week. I'm having to drive my project vehicle now haha

It's also possible your pump hangar snapped off the top hat. That's been happening more and more frequently.

First thing is first, get yourself a fuel pressure gauge, I'm sure you can get a cheap one at harbor freight for your one time use. Do you have fuel pressure? If yes it's not the pump, if no check for power to the pump on intitial key on. If power and no pump sound or pressure then you need a pump (also check for ground just to be certain). Pretty simple. If no power then backtrack to the fuse, if power on one side the fuse and not the other then you have a blown fuse, if no power on either side the fuse? Back track to the relay. The rest of your stuff like changing the oil for metal shavings is wasting your time and could have used that 50.00 in oil for the pressure gauge, if the engine was seized (the whole point looking for your shavings) the starter would not even crank the engine.

Diagnosis is a process of deductive reasoning. Eventually you will find what is missing and why.

To get an engine to start you need air, fuel, compression and spark. If fuel pressure and no spark then chase the spark. If fuel pressure and no injector duty cycle then look at anti theft (not positive if the z cuts fuel or doesn't command starter relay for its anti theft). Fuel and spark look good then you have to dig deeper into mechanical (compression test).

Good luck but first thing I would check is an ex fuel pressure check to get an idea where you need to go.

Ok so the car is running again. From what the shop told me the battery was just low, 5+ year old battery. They replaced it with a new one and it fired up on the first try. The only thing is they said it's running rough, like it has bad gas, which could be because the gas 91 is about 2 months old now.
I'll be following this tread now since it sounds more like what is happening to me now then a bad bump.
Car won’t start

Best of luck to you getting your issue resolved mdxj.

Ah battery to weak to have enough voltage to make spark while cranking. Should have had a pretty slow crank then, might have been too slow for the PCM to pick up that the engine was cranking.
