Default Castrol 0w30 no longer GERMAN castrol

Maybe I'm late to the party, but I didn't see any specific threads about this. 0w30 formerly known as the good ol German castrol we all love is no longer German. Still wears the "European formula" logo but it is now produced in Belgium. The new* German Castrol is now 0w40 API SN VS the Old 0w30 API SL Pretty interesting! I went to my local pep boys and sure enough, i was looking at 2 bottles 0w40 and 0w30 one made in Belgium, one made in Germany. I did a little research on BITOG and it is a new formulation with pretty amazing UOA's. It shears down to a heavy 30w at OT. I know allot of us do the GTR oil change with mobil 1 0w40, and now we have another Geat option for a 0w oil

anyways just thought id pass the news, whether or not you knew...fyi

I've always used GC 0w30 and my recent purchase through Amazon arrived "made in Belgium" Is this the same GC formula 0w30 or is it different? I tried the Mobil 1 0w40 once and though it did make the VQ sound much quieter it was much too thick.

it is NOT, the new GERMAN Castrol is now 0w40, that used to be 0w30 but with the new SN. I wouldn't say its bad because its made in belguim, but its not the same formulation and German Castrol we all know and love. I recently did the OC with 0w40, new german Castrol, and its performing beautifully

I run the Belgian 0w30 and I'm quite happy with it. I'm considering giving the GC 0w40 or the Motul 300V 0w40 a try soon, though.

Ive been wanting to try motul X-cess in the Z for a while. I would do 300V but its a bit of overkill IMHO for a DD that doesn't see the track time it should :/

How does it compare to Mobil 1 version of 0w-40? Assuming you've tried it or read about it.

I did not see this...sorry

the new German Castrol 0w40 has all the same approvals as mobil1 0w40, I prefer this GC over m1 anytime.

I might try it but 40 weight oil is too thick for the cold winters here.

I'm getting my oil changed Friday, so I'll get a UOA for the Belgian 0w30. Motul 300V 0w40 is going in.

Its a thin 40 weight, most are sayin it retauned all the original qualities of previous german castrol but with a better formulation

Awesome man. I love motul fluids. The 300v line is amazing, the only ive heard is that thier additive package wears down faster as its only a racing oil, but i have no personal experience with that. When i used to run 300v i took it to 4k oc and drained back almost every drop. Didnt burn at all.
