Jon at Z1 recommended a Universal Overhead Valve Spring Compressor. Fortunately we have one so that’s what we are going to try first.

Also not saying its going to happen but if you dont remove the upper pan when you go to put the oil pump back on you stand a good chance of cutting the oring while putting it back in also the front cover is a bitch to rtv and reinstall with the upper pan in place silicone everywhere it shouldnt be and not enough where it should be. This leads to oil leaks at the front of the pan.

The universal spring compressor wouldn’t work. We engineered our own tool using the items in the picture below.

Jon Parnham, one of the better known and respected tuners on our cars so I doubt it. I’d say it’s more likely that they have a different tool.

Tuner - engine builder - retailer are not the same things - lol

I would have expected guidance from the vendor on the best tool for this job.

Looks like you made something work, share another pic?

Lol ok !

I know they lie, on several occasions.

And this post on valve spring compressors!

Here is the tool that appears to be recommended by the cam designer/engine builder.

I hear what you are saying but sometimes a someone can use a tool in away others may not be able to duplicate. I doesn't make them wrong!

Personally I’ve got nothing but love for Z1 and don’t feel let down or misled in anyway. I’ve spent thousands upon thousands with them for a reason and they are my go to source. There are literally hundreds universal spring compressors. At first he mentioned the JWT option, then put me on hold to ask one of the techs just to make sure and he said they were having better luck with a universal.

Regardless we came up with something that works easily and that’s all I really care about.

Forum sure has change since 09-10 when I owned my first Nismo, everyone on this forum was in it together, haters were the minority. A lot of the guys on here today should be driving V6 Mustangs and don’t deserve such a great car. Just don’t understand the negativity.

Hey, I remember when I joined and back in 2012. I was so inspired by your car as were many others. I learned a lot from all the OGs and others. I was sad when you sold your car but understood since I'm a little older lol. Now I know enough to call BS when I see it and there are still a decent cohort of us old members to keep things on the up and up around here. Many are miss guided or had a bad experience or know someone that did with a reputable business, tuner or mechanic and therefore they want to slam them. Well I have met a few of the best a ZDAYZ over the years and I have gained great respect for what they bring to the community even if they aren't perfect. Stay the course as you are inspiring lots of enthusiast here. I look forward to your build and love the fact that you doing the build with your dad!

Haters are gonna hate. I have made tools before also and I keep them around to use again. I understand why your father took the back of the front cover off. Unless you have a lift, it's not easy getting the 2nd oil pan off. Someone with a lift could of had the tranny out in 45min and the oil pan off in the same time. That front cover is no joke, but if you are on jackstands, I would have done the same. MA drops the whole motor and cradle out of the car to change the cams. Different strokes for different folks.
