I found that out on the 85 mph toll road we've got here. I encountered a similar problem many miles ago. I ended up taking the steering wheel controls apart and trying to clean them the best I could. It's been a while, but I think I used compressed air and a small flathead screwdriver wrapped with a cloth. I wasn't expecting much, but it seemed to solve my problem.
