We have not had any issues with the one in our shop car whatsoever. The only real issue I have heard about it people accidentally ripping the rubber dust boot either when taking apart their Z or when re-assembling.

Not at all!
You can adjust the height of the shifter with the car fully reassembled. The easiest way I can explain how to adjust the shifter is the following: (I am Right Handed...so the placement of my hands are probably opposite for a Left Handed Person) Sitting in the Driver's seat. Use your left hand and grab the shifter. Use your right hand and grab the shift boot. Beneath the boot, you will feel the adjustment collar. Pulling the collar up, you can then adjust the shifter's height by pulling or pushing the shifter up or down with your left hand. It will take a little playing with to fully grasp the concept, but once you actually try it with it installed. You will be able to do it on the fly. ...and for some reason. If you cannot do it with the shift boot and shifter installed. You can pop shift boot panel off and reach underneath it to release the collar. Something else I should forewarn you...and so can anyone else who has removed the factory shifter....IT WILL BE A PAIN! It is possible to remove the shifter without damaging. You dont need pipe wrenches or any of that garbage. It will take muscle and patience. Give me a call if you have any questions as to the installation. |

Does the kit come with instructions?, like If I take it to Nissan can they just follow the instructions to install it perfectly with no gaps, and not F* up the install? Lol. So in other words: is it so easy that a Nissan caveman can do it?

Unfortunately it does not come with instructions. It is a LONG overdue project on my part to create one for this product.
Install the shifter is fairly straight forward. There is no modification required to the car or the shifter. Basically, pull the old one out. But the AMS Short Throw Shifter back in and adjust to your desired setting. |

I just ordered the AMS short shifter kit and I was wondering if there was an easier way of installing it? Do I really need to take the whole shifter assembly out to do the install?

Yes. The shifter trim panel and shift knob will need to be removed. From there the two rubber shift boots and retaining plate will need to be removed as well.
At that point you will need to disconnect the bolt securing the shifter to the shift arm. Some people can get their hands around it to do the install. But I cannot. I recommend jacking the car up and having it on a lift. When you get to this point. The shifter should literally "Pop" out since there is a sping beneath the shifter that aids in the reverse gear selection. Reassembly is the opposite of disassembly. |

I'm just gonna have Nissan do it, I really wish it came with instructions, but since it is a direct replacement, they should kinda already have OEM instructions.

The AMS that produces this shifter is Absolute Motor Specialties from Canada. Not the AMS renowned for the Time Attack EVO's and GT-Rs. They are two separate companies.
As for the question about the zip at the bottom, yes. That Zip tie is only on there for the purpose of shipping. The plastic washers and metal inner sleeve would simply fall out and float around in the packaging during shipping. Simply cut it off at the time of installation. |

I just had this installed as well, it does vibrate alil bit, but I've noticed lately sometimes if I "gun it" in second I will hear an almost rattle type noise and when I went to the gas station the other day it was rattling my shift knob alil. I noticed the rubber boot kept coming up and I had to push it back down. It kinda feels like the stock shifter actually, or maybe I've gotten used to it. Also how do you raise/lower the ams shifter kit?
