How did you take them out? I don't want to break anything and I don't want to cut the cables either...

I removed the white plastic from the back. From there, I acutually ended up cutting the wires then pulled it out from the bottom. It doesn't matter if you cut them because you have to add more wire to it to run it to the terminal anyways.

Ok, thanks! One question for all who have done this or know about the electronic layout of the car, Can I just leave everything the way it is and just strip a little bit of the red and beige cables and run the extension to the relay? Leaving them connected and all, can that cause damage or overload something? I don't know...

Done! Took the cables out with the connectors. No cutting or stripping wires, just joined the connectors with the extra piece of wire and done.

I always wanted this functionality, glad I found this thread. Trickiest part was removing the pins from the connector since there is a very small plastic clasp that holds them in place. I had to cut the size of the blade on the spade connector to fit into the relay, hopefully I won't have a problem with it popping out.

Has anyone done this on one with nav? My nav display would not turn to the night time mode as the DRL always on. I believe the nav display turns dark when the DRL is off(when the headlights are on). I'd have to manually change the display to 'dark'.....

Does this mod turn the tail/side marker lights on with the engine too? I did the modification from IJDMTOY, and now when the engine starts the DRL's are on like normal but the taillights and side marker lights are illuminated too.

Just thought I would add a quick addendum for anyone else doing this mod.

The electrical connector that worked for me was a 1/4" however I needed to file 1/16th off for it to fit snugly in the fuse box. I'll update if it loosens up. I think it will be okay though because it requires needle nose pliers to remove from the relay port.

Exactly what I did, although I filed from all directions and the trouble I went through to get it in, I don't think it's gonna come loose anytime soon. That's the way it should've came from the beginning! Looks sick

No it will not. The DRL is a simple circuit.

I did this months ago in a hotel parking lot and my tool kit. Easy peasy.

MMine came loose but it was my fault. I used a slighly to small spade connector. Redid it and actually did the same thing you did jammed it in and its been steady for months.

I (finally) did this, thanks for the DRL DIY!

I pulled the DRL connecter out and managed to get it apart and still yanked the tan wire off the pin so I'd recommend you just cut the tan and red wires 2-3" up from the plug and just leave the ends stuffed down plug empty sockets (like the red one below) so if it needed to be reversed you could just strip the end then and twist (solder if you're a pro) them back together

Was very quick once sure had proper red / tan wires (other reds and tans had light silver stripes on them) just focus on the plug lower right in my pic and you'll be fine

you definitely need the bladed plug to plug into the "on when engine on" source, no way to connect the wire just jamming it in there (not from lack of trying) but, luckily, since I'm a garage hoarder I dug into my electronics box-o-crap and found a match.

Went very quick so detailed the engine bay as I reassembled.
Thanks again!
