I have used them before with no problems. I think since I have owned the car I have been to 3 carwashes. 2 of them being automatic. No problems with the dip coming off or scraping up.

You can take a pressure washer to plastidip when its properly applied.

So much better then actually buying black or carbon fiber wrapped door handles for $200.

so i dipped mine, and I sware I must of put like six coats but when I went to pull it off... well lets just say it was not a clean as yours, that Sh!t stuck everywhere!!! any tips on how to take it off?

NickTurnon 05-16-2013 09:33 AM

It shouldn't "stick everywhere"... Do you have a picture of what you are talking about?

Also, you have to make sure whatever you are plasti-dipping is CLEAN. So that means taking a wet rag and scrubbing off the handles/wheels/emblems, etc...

Upload a pic. Ill walk you thru it. For the time being, if theres sticky residue from the dip left on your undipped handle...get some GOO GONE and put it on a rag and rub it off.

FOR THE ADVANCED: ORG. 08AWSTI
*NOTE: This can be done while the handles are still on the car! Disassembly is not needed.

1) MEASURE OUT CARBON FIBER WRAP TO INNER HANDLE
2) CUT WRAP WITH SHARP TOOL
3) PEEL BACKING OFF WRAP & HEAT AND APPLY TO INNER HANDLE.
4) REMOVE BAD EDGES WITH SHARP TOOL (XACTO KNIFE WORKS GREAT)
5) ONCE WRAP IS ON INNER HANDLE, TAKE HEAT GUN AND GO OVER THE ENTIRE HANDLE
6) MAKE SURE HANDLE IS CLEAN, TAPE OFF THE INNER HANDLE PORTION YOU JUST WRAPPED & YOU WILL BE PLASTI-DIPPING OVER.
7) TAPE OFF ENTIRE HANDLE AREA AS SEEN IN MY VIDEO ABOVE.
8) SPRAY ENTIRE HANDLE
9) WHEN DRY, PEEL OFF EXCESS PLASTI-DIP & DIP ON INNER HANDLE.
10) RUB EXCESS OFF PAINT WITH FINGERS

When done properly, it lasts.

Handles and wheels are great. I get compliments all the time.

I did my handles.... they look good , just that it feels sticky sometimes. Perhaps it has to do with the humidity? Just to give you an idea... I did 3 coats of charcoal grey and 1 coat of metalizer....

NickTurnon 05-29-2013 01:26 PM

I noticed that if you heavily coat the last layer and spray a little closer then you normally would, the texture of the handle changes.

It becomes almost glossier or provides a more "shiney/wet" look.

When you do the last coat, try and spray the last coat further away.
Almost like a mist rather then a spray. It might help give a little rougher texture so its not so sticky...

Mine get a little sticky when left in the 106 degree AZ heat.

tail lights

How did you do your tail lights? Did you tape off the clear part? Plasti dip?

NickTurnon 06-06-2013 09:49 PM

Yes- Just taped off the reverse light. Use your nail and make sure the edge is completely lined up. And when you peel, peel when its wet and use a sharp edge to tear against. Itll make sure none of the dip hangs on to the tape when you remove it.

Good luck! Just do one or two coats. Anything more than that gets too dark. Also. Test the lights with each coat that you do. That way you get the desired darkness that you are achieving.

Great thanks. I'm doing the badges as I type.... handles are next then the rear lights.

plasti dip complete

I have completed the plasti dip experiment. I did all the badges, side blinkers, bake lights(red part only) and the center brake light. Looks awesome! Thanks for the help. :driving:
