I picked up a TWM short shifter from a fellow forum member this weekend and will be tackling this soon. Seems like just about every question has been asked and answered, so to everyone for that.

However, I was wondering if you guys had to jack up the car to get to the underside of the shifter assembly? Being a big fat a$$, I am concerned whether I can get far enough under the car to reach the linkage without jacking it up

No chance, unless you're a 99lb girl, you are not going to fit. It's best to jack the car up on jack stands or a hoist.

nismo doesn't even use jackstands or jacks. he just lifts the car with one arm.

I figured as much.

I thought he was only bench pressing a 350Z

Great write up, I was really interested in the ease of switching the shifter out. I'm thinking I might just switch out the shifter arm when I get the new shift nob vs trying to fight the stock off from what people say about the amount of glue.

Would it be alright to grease the ring spacer? Im getting the nasty metallic rattle at high rpms coming from the shifter area

You mean the white plastic piece referenced in Post #77? It should be greased. I think I used white lithium but can't remember exactly. Search or reference the FSM for confirmation.

I greased the white cup. Im talking about the metal spacer that goes under the spring and the white cup. Im thinking it could just be the short shifter, the 350z guys have this metal rattling problem with short shifters as well.

If I'm going to replace the shifter, knob, and boot...do I really need to remove the factory knob or can I just unscrew the boot?

Ok, I studied the pic and I think I can answer my own question. It might be possiblw but extremely difficult as the boot, rubber boot, metal plate, and white cup would all be in place when putting in vise...let alone trying to unbolt plate with all that in the way. Not worth trying the hard way.

Haha! I hear ya. I fitted a b&m couple weeks ago, while I was changing my diff. The “foreskin of Satan” isn’t too bad with the tail shaft removed.
