Swapping Gear Shift Knob

I'm wanting to change out my Z's 6MT gear shift knob for a red Password:JDM balanced knob, does anyone know of a DYI thread for that? Thanks in advance!

Unscrew the old one.

Drink a beer.

Screw on the new one.

Drink a beer.

Enjoy new shift knob.

I think you left out a couple beers.

OP-- it's actually quite a pain to get the stock knob off due to the lock tight. Make sure you hold the base in place while you pop it off, so you don't bend it.

Yeah. Forgot about that. We pretty much wrapped the stock one with a towel and used a pair of channel locks.

I tried to use a towel folded multiple times to protect the stock shift nob, but I ended up completely destroying it anyways. I didn't really care because the black nismo nob is so much better. GL!

Its VERY rare to hear about someone not destroying theirs! its hard to get around the locktite without doing damage. Same on the G37 I had.. murdered that one as well

Step 1. Put channel locks on the shifter (not knob) and wedge them against the console.
Step 2. Don't be a girl.
Step 3. Twist the knob off.

I'm 140 lbs and have taken two of these off without any issues or any damage. I still can't comprehend where the difficulty lies.

I used a small rag and a adjustable strap wrench from Lowes. Stock knob came off damage free

I used that set Boost Lee has in his pic, ordered it off Amazon. Just put the strap on the shift knob and turned and it came off. I was lucky, mine wasn't as stuck on as some other peoples'.

I think the assembly techs at Nissan went crazy w/ the loc-tite just so they could laugh at all of us.
