Headliner removal?

I recently picked up a dash cam with a rear camera and the bloody thing requires a very short wire to be run to the back of the car.

Running wires under the carpet is very straight forward, but I am having a difficult time figuring out which panels need to be removed to get the headliner off. I'd almost consider running this wire under the carpet just because it's a lot less effort, but the wire's not long enough for that and with the hatch opening the way it does, the only reasonable place to mount the camera is on the ceiling.

I cannot find any DIY articles that illustrate removal of the headliner. Any pointers before I start needlessly ripping out half of my interior and weather stripping?

You have to take a lot of the side panels off, might be better off just sliding the cable under the panels that hold the headliner up. You may need to remove the A pilar the rest you can slide the cable between.

Thank you, that definitely takes care of the sides. However, the camera's mounted next to the rear view mirror on the windshield to comply with local laws.

I need to tuck that cable under the headliner and I'm worried if I don't do that properly I'll put a visible crease in it. I already did this for the camera's power, but that wire is very thin and it went up there without any resistance. The cable that goes to the rear camera is thicker than a typical USB cable though

you should be able to pull the head liner down enough to slide it in still

The original topic wasn't really appropriate for that sub-forum because this was a request for tips on DIY headliner removal. It has nothing to do with modding anything whatsoever, I'm not promoting or asking for details on an actual product of any sort.

The DIY section was never for DIY write ups only, read the description:

"Share/Request DIY Articles ll Install/Removal Instructions ll How To ll Tips and Tricks"

As it stands, I finished what I needed without any major hiccups. But boy is it frustrating when you apply pressure putting the weather stripping back on only to hear the headliner being crushed. Nothing was visibly damaged, but that is a gut wrenching sound

I give it six months from now OP will be posting a question as to how to keep headliner from falling down or separating. Never **** with the headliner.

So true, my 14 has a headliner gap from new just above the driver door seal to headliner. You can just make out the edge of the headliner. Did I take it to Nissan for warranty work? No SIR. They would be ripping apart all the trim pieces for this slight annoyance. Not worth the hassle.

I got my headliner replaced under warranty for very minor drooping at the windshield. Because of a horror story I heard about on this forum, I made sure they knew I was not going to accept anything less than perfect. It was one of the few times I was not disappointed by the dealer.

lol, why do you think I asked on here for the proper procedure? I did not want a crease in my headliner and I didn't want it falling down.

I sort of scooted around the issue by running the wire under the trim pieces for most of the distance, but in the back the weather stripping had to be pulled down to finish the job on the hatch. Putting the stripping back on sucked, because you could hear the pressure crushing the headliner - but it's more resilient than I expected and despite the noise, there's nothing visibly bent.

So how did you go on about installing the rear cam?
I just got a 2channel dash cam and need to figure this out also..
