i read the write up , what you did looks good ... do i need to let the base coat dry first then add the pearl ? when i tried

i read the write up , what you did looks good ... do i need to let the base coat dry first then add the pearl ? when i tried it , it went on way too thick . i see where the toothpick would work pretty good too.

That is likely due to the paint you have doesn't come with any sort of thinner similar to the SealAct provided in the Dr. Colorchip kit. The dealer paint pens/kit is crap from my experience on past vehicles.
