Default Paint chipping problem on front lip

Hi fellow "Z" members,

I have a dilemma. The paint on my front lip keeps chipping. I'm not a paint expert but maybe the painter did not do a proper job. It almost seems like a primer was not used. I dropped $450 to paint that front lip about 8 months ago and have used Dr. Color Chip to fix the chips many times, otherwise it would look like Swiss cheese.

You will notice the OEM bumper has no chips and I would expect the front lip to be more resilient against the chipping. I don't drive it on dirt roads or anything like that, just regular side streets and highways.

Any opinions on this?

Here are some pics:

Aftermarket paint is never as hard as factory paint. My last car I re did the whole front bumper and it did this. Every little rock that hit created chips like this. I do have to get a small part of my current bumper touched up and will be springing for a clear bra for the bumper since it will be off the car for a while.

Get it repainted when you can and protect it.

I agree with RDAVIS 247 above 100%!! I had a Q45 that got a damaged front bumper. It was repainted by the Infiniti recommended high end shop and over time looked like some one took a shotgun to it. Repaint it and cover with a PPF if you want it looking good long term.

Ill add something different: never drive behind trucks or other large tire vehicules. Kinda sounds dumb, but believe me those wide tires lift a lot of crap from the ground and end up in our beautiful Z's.

If you're going to drive a car like these and worry about paint chips, either get a clear bra, a leather bra or learn how to paint cars. I did the last one. I pull my bumper and just paint it myself every couple of years.

Or just tail gating in general. I'm still lost on why people want to follow 1 car length at all times from 10-90mph, while taping their brakes every 2.5 seconds, rather than just keep a safer following distance.

I find it ironic that people who actually own fast cars drive the slowest in traffic, yet the people that own "me too" suv/cuv's enjoy being in a constant state of panic while following excessively close, all to get home 40 seconds early to watch judge judy apparently? and why isn't it that they've not figured out that if you do want to slow down, you can simply take your foot off the gas.

So the tail gating = people driving in packs on the freeways, the accordion affect because there's no room to merge, more brake pads/rotors, higher chance of an accident, road rage, and of course rock chips.

Every car I've had since a mid 90's lexus, that paint is bible paper thin, like, you can LOOK at it and it'll become pregnant with rock chips. so why roll the dice?

Would love to see a DIY video from the Junkman how he paints his bumper!

That would be a VERY advanced video that would be hours long. You think that my simple paint correction videos are long, automotive painting would take even LONGER. Add to that, some people can't follow detailed instructions with my simple paint correction videos so I could just imagine how chaotic the questions would be on an automotive painting video would be. Just check out the ones on You Tube now. The video posters hardly ever get back to people because there are so many questions being asked.

No thank you!

There are people out there who make videos like that but they leave out so much information that you end up realizing how much work it is AFTER you get started on the job. Then you get hit with 5000 questions because people don't follow your instructions to the letter, and they end up having to take their car to a professional. I don't want to be responsible for creating that headache for anyone, including myself! The equipment, setting up the equipment and the materials needed alone would be an EPIC video.
