That is embarrassing. Especially for a street Alcon kit. Even worse is when someone spends money like that on a Stoptech Kit. Trust me I have customers who do. I sold a front and rear kit along with a hand brake to an Audi customer yesterday...I offered better kits for the same price and he didnt bite!

Then using that street kit really doesnt make much sense on those 20 track events a year does it.....Thanks for your comments but we arent talking about Alcon, Brembo, Or Stoptech at this time. The thread was started by me and it is strictly about AP Racing at this time. I would like to keep it that way thanks. More so the thread is gauged towards hardcore racers and guys who track their cars enough where street calipers and street rotors no longer do the job. I have given my reasons why Alcon is not superior or even on the same level as AP Racing in previous posts.

You can get AP brakes anywhere from $5000 (street) to $50000 (Nascar), so as with anything you buy the level of performance you need.
I have had no major issues running the AP street calipers on track (about 15 days a year), my only complaint was related to dust seals which has been mostly addressed with a $100 heat shield. This is no fault of AP, they have plenty of comp calipers in a similar price range, it was Stillen that put together the package and they are primarily street focused.

Correct. AP Racing is generally more expensive than other manufactures like Stoptech, Rotora etc but if we are comparing quality vs price. You can get a very high quality part or brake set up geared towards street or track duty for the same price that you can buy a Brembo kit for (At Retail Dollar)
As far as the dust boots are concerned, Stillen/Brake Pros gears all their kits towards street driving. There are many other better Rotors and Calipers to choose from while still maintaining similar pricing. |
