Default Want brakes but having trouble sorting through the BS

So I've read nothing short of 20 threads on brakes. One brand over another, 4 piston, 6 piston, fitment issues, slotted vs drilled...

Fact is, I like the stock brakes on my Nismo and I know I'm throwing myself under the bus here but cross drilled rotors and calipers look Sweet! I know your supposed to buy for performance but if I get the look I want and performance then WIN WIN.

That said, who's had great experiences with aftermarket brands? I've mentioned several times that I used to own a bike shop, guys would come in that barely know how to ride and buy 8 piston spiegler set ups but they WERE such overkill!!!

Should I just man up and go for the 6 piston set up or is it a waste?

Can I just get by with the fronts or should I do rears too?

We would change calipers out only to have guys freak out when they replaced pads at 6-8 times the cost of stock. I want to keep that in mind too. Last, some aftermarket set ups make a mess of the rims with brake dust, any feedback from experience would be much appreciated.

I can sell my stockers to help recover some of the cost but need to do it soon before I put miles on the car. Any value in the stock set up?

Sorry for all the questions but don't want to make a bad call.

That was ONE HELL of a thread, not sure how I missed that one

Thanks so much, read the whole thing. Looks like Brembo's (still thinking about AP's) I like the part about doing it in pcs so its not such a big hit all at once. I'll run the front first and do the back down the road.

So much knowledge in one post, very enlightening!

One other thing I picked up on, I think the 4 piston set up will suffice since I don't plan on hitting the track often..

Again, thank you and great read!

you would be much better off having someone (hmm, me maybe?) powdercoat your stock sport brakes. Done in a nice color, they will look as good as any aftermarket kit, and since you don't go to the track too much, they should be more than adequate.

Now who might be able to powdercoat his calipers?

I may be up to that....hmmmm

I truly was just going through the sites looking for a good deal for calipers but having a hard time pulling the trigger with mine feeling ok as is plus I have other things I want to do.

Any pics of calipers you've done? What's the turn around time and can you give me an estimate for going red?

Can you powdercoat the strut brace under the hood. One of the guys on the board wants to do his red and I dont think he's found a supplier just yet.

Thanks man

I just saw your other post under the group buy section. What do you charge bro since the group buy is over? I'm leaning towards Brembo's but your option is much less.

Sorry Mike but last thing. Could you do JUST the rears and have them match the brembo red? Dont forget to let me know about the strut tower brace, if you can do that in red and what it costs. Not for me. THX.

I can still do the 300 price for forum members here. strut brace is 125. I could also just do the rears in a close red. i would have to have the brembos here to get an exact match. I can also do the rears on exchange. Unfortunately, I stripped the threads in a fluid hole on one of my brembos, so I don't have a front exchange set at the moment.

my recommendation is to get new fluid, pads and lines for the stock brakes. If for some reason thats not enough for you, then call Kyle or Josh at Stillen and ask for the 6pot AP Racing setup.

If you go the stock route (like I am right now), then get some Motul RBF600 fluid, Challenge Brake lines and Carbotech XP10 for the front and XP9 for the rear. That should be MORE than enough for someone who doesnt hit the track competitively..and doesnt care about bling.

If I had the cash for that right now, I would have the AP Racing setup already.

Thank you and I'll pass along the info about the brace.

Get back to you shortly.

As for the stock brakes they are completely adequate for street use and occasional track use. If you start driving a lot harder or tracking a lot more i would suggest changing pads to higher performance pads and brake ducting. The pad and ducting combo should be fine for the enthusiast driver.
