Brakes are one of the first jobs I ever did myself on a car. Rotor and pad replacement is fairly simple with just basic tools required. And I think for the ease of the work, shops generally overcharge for brake work more than almost anything else. Other than jack, jack stands, and a few sockets and wrenches needed for just about any car maintenance, the only item I've purchased to do brakes is a Power Bleeder with Nissan adapter for $70, which makes it super easy for me to bleed the brakes solo.

I will also argue that it is often more inconvenient for me to have to take my car somewhere for repairs. I don't have to worry about arranging alternate transportation while the car is in the shop, which can be a ridiculous hassle sometimes. And I know that the work will be done right with care and consideration for the vehicle. Mechanics who don't care about my car are the main reason I started to DIY everything I could on the Z
mishuko and wideglideleon like this.
