This started with a laser scan of the stock cubby which was used this to create the starting model which was modified from there. The biggest problem I encountered was resolving various clearance & interference issues so that the final product would bolt directly in, replacing the stock cubby. Since the model does not include all of the surrounding pieces, I had to solve this iteratively.

The other challenge I found was in sanding and finishing the printed bezel. As all printed surfaces are textured, you will likely have to either cover it with some material or sand and finish it. You are likely to find the latter more tricky than you think, particularly if you are trying to achieve an automotive grade smooth finish. Don't expect to be able to do this with rattle can spray paints; and like any painting it is essential to get the surface prep flawless.

Good luck in your quest!

You can check my stuff and order at my website. If you want to just order the unfinished bezel, you can save a few bucks ordering directly from Shapeways store

Drop me a PM if you have any questions.
