meh... you're too hung up on doing it like everyone else. like vtec controllers and e-manage systems, it's really no big deal to cut into factory wiring.

the ONLY benefit of using these metra type harnesses is convenience. it's not that big of a deal if someone didnt use them imho.

Not at all man, it's the simple fact that it saves from headache in the long run along with if you ever resell the vehicle. It's better to do things the right way than hack up a brand new car's harness for no reason, these aren't old honda civic's but brand new sports cars. That's why they make these harnesses to make sure it's done right. You said previously you didn't even know they made harnesses for installs!

you're just labeling someone cutting into factory wiring as if they are doing it 'wrong'. maybe for you, but i dont think so. i just use the harness for convenience since i can work on the install off the car and pnp it later.

doest matter if they are sports cars or civic or not. cutting factory wiring to me is no big deal. and dealers are not going to yank out the stereo just to verify wiring.. especially if the stereo is working correctly during trade in.

i think you were just traumatized by your friend that's a girl's bf f-king up install on her car and you were called in to fix it.

GJ nissanguy.

no worries on the t-taps. i use it all the time with no ill effects.
also really no issue going directly to factory wiring. it's just easier to revert back to stock if you use one of these metra's, or change HU manuf. later on.

with the pioneer harness, ive gone from 3100DVD, 4100DVD to 4500BT using the same pioneer harness.

here's the harness if anyone else is doingin install. for my 09 (non Bose) i use Metra 70-7522.

Dash is put back together. I bought a USB and Aux input, which replaces the 12v power in the armrest. So it looks factory and if i plug my iphone in to charge or for ipod mode, its just hidden away in the armrest.

Is the metra dash kit designed to remove the gap around the head unit? I might get that in the future, as well as a backup camera and maybe new speakers. So far im loving the unit..got myself a nismo background.

The metra will still have a slight gap where as the scosche model has no gap.

I'm currently having trouble with the parking bypass on this radio. what type of parking bypass did you use and how did you hook it up?

looks good, nissanguy.

on my install i just made a gasket that fits around the perimeter of the HU using black hard felt. most art stores like michael's, joanne's sells them.

i cant tell in your pict, but if you still have the very thin felt-like oem gasket on the factory bezel, removing it will make the install look cleaner too. i used RC car motor spray to remove, you can use googone or WD40 or watever you got in your garage.

removing the bezel will make the work go faster.

ebay one but you might need to get the updated version. the seller has an old and new version from wat i understand. get the one that lists your stereo model. i run the ebrake bypass on my 2 other cars and using the newer version. works fine.

on my Z i just use a rocker sw since i needed something to populate the 3 switch slots in the center console next to the cup holder. works great.

My dealership installed my HU in place of getting me a Nav Package that I wanted.

I have never gone back to that dealership for anything, and never will again...

Anyways...

Does someone have a wiring diagram for the stock mic and GPS? The dealership installed a AVIC x940bt. SWI steering wheel controller. They set up the controller and radio properly but couldn't program it lol With some awesome threads from here, I got it working properly.

Later on I installed a AVIC z140bh and got the voice controls to work off my bluetooth steering wheel buttons. I am really happy with it.

I am currently trying to install a beltronics stir plus and tore apart my dash and decided to clean up the mess the dealership left behind. Everything was twisted together with electrical tape, and I have no idea what wire does what. I was also thinking if the Z comes with a mic and a GPS, why not just use it. Otherwise may as well pull it out and try to install the aftermarket where it is located....

Oh and I've got the bose package...

Found this handy guide...

Guess the owner closed the link. Once I have FTP up and running, I will share this file.

In case you run into this issue, it took me some time to figure it out searching online...I installed a 5600BHS with a bypass. It turns out the bypass would allow video to play but certain functions were still locked out. I think the locked out functions are just auto eq and firmware updates. I needed to install a firmware upgrade but could not because of the bypass. I ended up having to pull the head unit out and wire to the parking brake properly. Ironically, the only reason I went with the bypass is I was feeling too lazy to tap the parking brake.

I've got a avic-z140bh and I am trying to clean up the dealers install by removing electrical tape and installing butt connectors. Is it easier to replace the RCA connectors? I am not sure how they are wired up from the pioneer harness.

Look at some pics Here
