Dash mounted Speakers Replacement

Anyone tried replacing these yet? if so, what brand and size did you use? also how do you remove the speaker covers?

Just replacing your speakers will not help that, as I stated in previous posts the bose system will start dropping out frequency such as your treble and bass. You can upgrade them and it will get a tad better but not as much as if you were to replace the entire system. Speakers I would recommend for that small place would be kicker highest series they have can not think of it right now or pioneer premiers are nice as well.

I bought some infinity 3.5 inch speakers for the dash thinking they would fit. They didn't and I had to return them. Some on here have used a couple of other brands. I ended up using the dash for some Kenwood tweeters.

It may sound kind of ghetto, but it worked out great. I took the stock speakers out of the dash, then ripped out the magnet, cone, and voice coil. The metal basket was the perfect size to put my Kenwoods in. Put it back in the dash and put the covers back on,and now it still looks stock but sounds much better.

To get the covers off just take something relatively soft and dull (so you don't scratch anything) and pry them up. They just clip in.

Edit- Infinity 6.5's will fit in the doors and sound great. Probably also sounds kind of ghetto mixing and matching brands, but I think my hybrid Kenwood/Infinity system sounds pretty darned good.

The only ones that are nice from them are the kappa ones but they sometimes have to be tuned back as they to can get harsh, but as I said no matter what you out in the bose is still going to drop that stuff out when you turn up the volume.

^^ you can mix brands some will blend well and some will not, all depends on how they are built and what cut off freq they are set at.
You could also make it easier and use a piece of universal plastic cut a piece out and mount the tweeter into that and install it in the opening of the top of the dash. I have had the infinitys I never much cared for them.

Which Infinity 3.5s did you buy that didn't fit? I was just looking at their KAPPA 32.9's for my build. Returning things from Hawaii is a pain!

Thanks,
M.J.

These reference series ones

Infinity - Car Audio

The speaker itself was 3.5" but needed like 5-5.5" for the mount

Get a nice compenent set like some focal's. they are super efficient and will run off of deck power and will destroy the stock bose speakers in comparison.

FYI to those who never installed 6.5" door speakers for the BASE 370Z.

When you pull the door panel off, you'll see an oval base with a 6.5" speaker attached to it. You may find yourself scratching you head when the magnet hits the metal beam inside the door when attaching the new speaker to the oval base.

I wasn't clear about other DIYs in regards to spacers and faintly read somewhere this suggestion:
Cut out the OEM speaker and use the frame as a spacer for the 6.5" speaker before attaching it to the oval base.

Yes you definitely need spacers to put aftermarket 6.5's in the doors. Cutting out the stock speaker from the bracket or fabing up a 1/4th inch spacer ring will work (what i did)
