Default Caution with 2013 models and install

Well I got my hands on a 2013 base 370z today for a basic head unit, rear camera, and rear speaker install. Something that should of taken me no more than 4 hours ended up taking almost 10 hours! I strongly suggest reading on.

The biggest problem was the standard metra harness model 70-7552. Let me start by saying it is the wrong one!. It will plug in just like any older model z. However the factory wiring harness is completely different referring to how it's wired. The only wires that are still correct are Front Left speakers, Illumination, and Constant 12 volt. Other than those you have to purchase an additional unit and add pins in blanks in order to use it. I notified metra about this as well as sent them pictures. They replied by saying it is the correct harness and you may have had a defective harness. (Note here that we bought two of them from worst buy)

Anyone that will be using the metra aswc, make sure you check the newest diagrams! They changed where the pins are located.

New door grommets, these are now solid with no space for a speaker wire. You will be able to drill through them just make sure your drilling thought an empty area. I will have a how to guide later on.

I just finished an install on my 2013 as well. I got the metra harness and just removed the rear speaker pins and placed them in the spots needed for the steering wheel controls. Took me all of 10 minutes. I noticed you went with rear speakers so yeah you would of needed 2. As for the speakers, you are correct, You have to go through a solid grommet.

So for those not using rear speakers, get the metra or scosche harness and just remove the rear speaker pins from the harness and place them into slots to connect pins shown in the attached diagram. You can use a small eyeglass screwdriver to remove the pins, just insert it into the hole above the pin (when looking into the connector) this will give you a clean install with no factory wires being cut. As for ground, just run a line and create your own.

Wish I had that diagram the other day. Thanks for the info, Actually I would not of needed the rear speaker wires because they were begin pulled directly from the kenwood harness. And what are you saying about going through a solid grommet?

We didn't want to start pulling pins so we just purchased a second one and pulled pins from that. In any case is a company tells you it will work with your vehicle you should not have to do such things. I am still in contact with them so hopefully they will fix this. Also we are not talking about the wires for steering wheel controls but wires for power an the right speaker.

NICE TO SEE MY Z On the NET!
That's My Blue 2013 Z and Matt did a Great Job with the install!
Matt, What is the Solid grommet on the door? What had to be drilled?
I must have missed something in the 10 hours we spent with my car.

I have to hand it to Matt. He stayed with it. It was a long process.
I would highly recommend Matt to install for anyone!

Normally it is however with the change in wiring in the 2013 models it no longer is until metra changes their harness or comes out with a new one.

I used a Metra harness and had no issues on my 2013 Nismo.

Same here on my Base 2013, i supplied my installer
with the metra harness model 70-7552, no problems.
Headunit, door speakers/tweeters, and metra kit for steering wheel controls.

Used the same items as the earlier 370z models.

took about 2.5 hrs to complete.
