I installed the GTMat sample and didn't notice much difference in the sound of the Bose woofer. But I was mainly after a reduction in road noise and didn't attempt any comparison of the way it affected the music.
What _did_ make enough difference to be worthwhile doing was removing the carpet in the back - it covers the hole in the pad over the sub-woofer and muffles it. A piece of thin fabric under the pad keeps foreign objects out of the sub and doesn't affect the sound.
