Sound deadening sucks!

Applying it, that is. Leaning over the hatch for hours isn't pleasant at all. The beer only helps so much. Glad I've got a couple of days to finish it.

The back up plan is ditching the Bose stuff for a real sub. That just costs a whole lot more.

I installed the GTMat sample and didn't notice much difference in the sound of the Bose woofer. But I was mainly after a reduction in road noise and didn't attempt any comparison of the way it affected the music.

What _did_ make enough difference to be worthwhile doing was removing the carpet in the back - it covers the hole in the pad over the sub-woofer and muffles it. A piece of thin fabric under the pad keeps foreign objects out of the sub and doesn't affect the sound.

The wiring harness is the easiest part. It's running all the wire to the amp/speakers that sucks.

The only way you're going to hear the Bose subs in the back is with a new headunit.

The speakers actually aren't that bad once you go aftermarket. IMO they went from mediocre to decent.

I just want to deaden the hatch.
I cant stand the road noise back there!!! ESPECIALLY when it rains. I swear i can hear every single rock and drop of rain from the wheel wells.

Two layers of sound deadening in the hatch done. Now for a layer of closed cell foam over top of it. This should take care of the road noise. Hopefully.

I went through this same ordeal last winter with my 10' I actually took the outer door actuators off to where I could apply the Dynamat to the inside of the outer door skin. A bit tricky but feel it was worth the time... If I were going to go through the ordeal of replacing the head unit, I'd get ahold of the one installer (can't think of his name right now) who was making up the wiring adapter to interface between the Metra unit and our OEM wiring harness. Too much cutting and splicing for me to be comfortable with. Not really sure how much the sound deadening actually helped. Tire/road noise is still making me go deaf.....
