DIY: Kenwood DNX6140 installed in my 370Z with Sirius and back up Cam (AK370Z)

I know the wiring harness is needed. But is the Versa Antenna needed? and what for? thanks for the info to me, the newbie.

The antenna adapter is to connect the antenna to the aftermarket head unit, without it you would not be able to pick up any am or fm signals.

That is beautiful! Such a sweet install. I am curious to know how this unit would work with a HD media player such as an Archos hooked up through the USB connection. Would the Kenwood HU list files, artists, albums, tracks, display album art, etc., and allow shuffle play as well as setting up playlists? I like the fact that the unit contains a GPS and can be fitted with a backup camera. This type of setup is something that I think is great and a better option than the stock navigation system because it maintains the storage pocket above.

Thanks,
Paul

Usualy head units only recognize hard drives up to 32 gb and have to be in fat32 format so you would have to portion a drive X amount of times and store as much as you can in each one. Yes they will show WHATEVER the file name is, so if you download it from the internet and it is like johnmayerunknown32s.mp3 that is what it will show unless you update the info, by right clicking the song and click info and type it all in, I rip all my songs via original cd's so this is not big deal to me. I just use my ipod much better and much easier, itunes dose all the work.

Important Info that I forgot to add in the write up (added now)

This is the AIRBAG sensor. You must disconnect this in order to take the panel off. Now, once you're done installing and you want to test your headunit, YOU MUST connect this first. If you forget, you have to reset your airbags and it's NOT fun. Here's how to reset your airbags: Flashing Airbag Light After HU Install

What happened was, the back license plate light was dropped down, than the wire was fished up threw there and over to the near by sealed grommet. From there it came into the car. After that the light on the side of it was just filed a TINY bit so the wire would fit there snugly than the light was put back into place and 2 holes were drilled for screws to secure the camera and that was it. The ipod cable is just your standard usb cable just like the one you use for your computer, that plugs into the usb plug that I located in the upper pocket. "unless it is a different one" Also yes the windows auto up feature had to be reset.

Where are these holes drilled?

Were you see the camera, the side of the bumper on the left hand side that bracket on the camera you just flush it up to the side of that space and drill 2 SPACED holes.

This is going to sound ridiculous, but can you remove the decals at the bottom?

Thanks AK370Z for the write up, I used this info to install my Kenwood DNX9140 last night and it went pretty smoothly. The only odd thing I noticed is the mount that holds the stock radio - and that you have to re use and screwonto the aftermarket one - it is screwed on with TORX screws. I ended up using 7/64" allen wrench to take the screws out since I didn't have a TORX head screwdriver.

Also, I ran my GPS antenna, microphone, and PTT button up behind the steering wheel, but I'm looking to re-run the GPS antenna and make it look a little cleaner like yours. Did you run the GPS antenna on the right side because you took out the glove box to route it, and then took out the dash speaker to route the antenna up?

This surprise almost ruined me. I didn't have a set of Torx drivers so I tried my regular screwdriver. I managed to get all but one screw out, but the last one twisted the head of the screwdriver. Luckily a friend was able to bring his torx stuff by so I could finish it up. I took a ton of pictures with the intention of creating a guide since I felt that both of the existing guides were missing something. One of these days I'll get around to finishing it up.
