Default Why So Slow???

I was wondering if anyone has input as to why it seems like all of the latest in-dash nav units are STILL so slow? When I say slow, I mean the menus and interface? In most of the demo vids, the reps are so careful in touching the screen making sure they use purposeful gestures. Even then they have trouble and the end user would be DRIVING while trying to navigate the menus. It just seems to me that with the size of the unit itself and the micro chips we have now, the menus should be super fluid. I would love to have one in my car however I can't justify spending the money that the top units are commanding with such crappy user interface.

I might be missing a few points, so if I am, PLEASE let me know because you might change my mind in not getting one! haha

Understandable, even the 910 has a less slick interface than others however it is one of the fastest interfaces out there.

I believe its the processor and or lack of. These things are basically a computer with a interface and there is a lot going on. They need to beef up the speed IMO.

I don't know. I've been asking this question for a while. Why do all the decks out there in 2012 still look like complete crap? Low resolution, resistive touch screens, ugly UIs and slow interfaces. I understand they are primarily for audio, but I don't get why they can't get with the times. You can buy an android tablet for less than 200 bucks that puts any high end deck to shame.

I would think that at least a part of it has to do with the updating of the NAV signal but then again my Mazda3 with stock nav is really quick. My non-nav Pioneer is also really quick.

I have two Nav Systems. One is an older one installed in my FJ Cruiser. The Eclipse AVN726E. This unit is not slow at all! I was very impressed with this unit when it came out and I am still impressed with it. I think it was one of the first 3d Nav systems out. The building looks crazy when in downtown LA. The Nav system itself runs smooth, but it does have its flaws. The menu does look outdated! But its fast. I can type in an address just as fast as I can hit the screen.

I also have the latest Pioneer. The AVIC-Z140BH. This thing can do 100 more things, but like you said. Its a little slower then my Eclipse. The menu looks up to date! Some of the ideas are great but sometimes it sticks, and the menus dont flow. I am sure they will have updates that will attempt to fix the issue some day. I like the unit, but as far as running smoothly, the Eclipse hands down will beat it.

I guess it all depends on what you want. The Eclipse menu looks outdated but runs smooth. The Pioneer looks up to date and has all the bells and whistles but does not run as smooth as i think it should.
