Default Rev Comes Down Slow?

All my life, I’ve been driving stick, all 4-banger cars. This is my first 6-Banger car. I have 2 questions for you guys.

I kept my RSX-S as weekday commute and drive the Z for the weekend. I know the 370 has a very touchy clutch and took people a while to get used to it. Switching cars on Fridays and Sundays certainly doesn’t help me. I try not to use S-Mode and get it right. How long did it take you guys to get used to the 370’s clutch and drive it smoothly especially 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd?

Most likely a 6-Banger behaves different than a 4-banger because there's more load. But it seems like (again no S-Mode) when I want to shift from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd, the rev comes down slower than what I am used to with a 4-Banger car, so I have to wait an extra 2 tenths or 3 tenths of a second before I let it engage smoothly. But if I use S-Mode, it’s better and pretty close to a 4-Banger. Do you experience this or I am crazy? And is this normal?

Thanks all,

Bro, your not alone on this one. I have owned many 5/6 speed cars and this Z has been the hardest to get smooth. I followed the people here, removed that helper spring and it made a world of difference. Today I installed the aftermarket spring offered here and so far Im liking it. I only have 1500 miles on my car and Im just now starting to be smooth with it.

The flywheel is very heavy on the 370Z, which causes retained inertia and thus slower rev drops once the clutch is down. You have to wait a solid 1 or 1.5 seconds in the 370Z before letting off the clutch.

The flywheel in your RSX is quite a bit lighter, and so it slows down faster, which allows you to shift it quicker. I drove an Audi A5 2.0T and it also has a really light flywheel that requires snappy shifts, otherwise it jerks.

Try removing the helper spring on the clutch pedal. It's an easy to do mod, and you can always put it back on if you don't like it.

Here's the thread: Clutch pedal too soft/no feel? Remove the helper spring!
