I applied deadener to the plastic panels as well, but I also used 3/16 weatherstripping to the outer edges of the panel where it meets the steel door skin, as

I applied deadener to the plastic panels as well, but I also used 3/16 weatherstripping to the outer edges of the panel where it meets the steel door skin, as well as making "washers" out of it around the push fasteners where it met the steel. Time consuming, but solved the problem for me.
