Post Backup Camera Install - Need Help

I did a search and looked through 16 posts regarding backup cameras, but couldn't find the info that I need...if i just missed it please direct me to the post

Got this CCD camera from ebay for $79 shipped - NISSAN 370Z CCD NTSC Car Rear View Backup Camera | eBay

So there's the camera that i bought...on the end with the camera it has a red (power) and yellow (video) plug along with a red wire and black wire, both wires are pretty thin (18 guage?). On the end that attaches to the headunit (avic-910bt) there is a yellow (video) plug and a thin red wire. The way the wires are coiled in the picture can appear misleading.

My question is where the thin wires go. It seems they need to go to some kind of power source, so what i was thinking would probably be the NORMAL course of action would be to hook up the thin red wire on the headunit's side to my headunit's REMOTE wire, and then to hookup the thin red wire on the camera's side to the reverse light power wire and ground the black wire.

Does this sound right?

Also, is there going to be a wire on the back of my headunit that i will need to run all the way to the reverse light power wire? I just want to make sure it will come on when i shift into reverse.

If I need clarifications let me know...any advice is greatly appreciated.

i got a very similar camera... mine did not have the thing red wires...I got mine from (tmart.com ) got a camera for wife's car that had the thing wires.. I did not use them.

Its been a while since I did my install so dont exactly remember but here an attempt..at my connections.

RCA (Yellow) --> HU
Ground ( BLK ) --> Anywhere
I ran a wire from the backup light to the power wire (RED) and another TAP into this power wire that went to the back of the HU where I have the reverse (trip) wire..Also this same power wire connects to 12V ignition wire in the back of the HU.

Just to get this straight, you used the red wire coming directly out of the rear of your HU? And this is the 12V wire? I will have to get a tap for that wire...you don't remember what guage tap you used for it do you?

Thanks for the info

Just to update quickly, I tapped into the red wire coming out of the hu wiring and attached it to the red thin wire coupled with the video plug. I grounded the camera's black wire and just left the red one alone...it works great, everytime i shift into reverse it will bring up the camera and it works while driving as well. I will try to post pics soon.

However, now I am seeing a flashing air bag symbol on my tach and the passenger's airbag on the console reads "off". The service engine light is on as well.

I will be double checking all connections tomorrow, but will likely have to take it into the dealership (under warranty) :/ ...

I remember reading about the airbag light problem in one of the other backup camera threads. There is a way to get rid of it but I don't remember what you have to do. See if you can do a search for it.

Thanks for the tip, I found the article with ease Flashing Airbag Light After HU Install

The airbag lights are now off, but the SES light remains lit. The car accelerates and drives just fine, but it is very unnerving to see that light on. Reading the other posts here, and considering I filled it up not to long before I installed the camera, it might be a gas cap being loose, or evap leak. I will update when I find out.

Edit: Ok, I took it in to the dealership and they said it was a "AC communication failure" code..they wouldn't actually tell me the #...What I think happened was when I got done wiring the camera, I turned the car on to make sure the camera was getting a signal before I had reattached the rest of the plugs (ac/passenger airbag/etc). Everything is plugged back in now, so I might wait a week or so and see if the light goes off. Worst case scenario, the guy at the dealership said they would fix the issue and turn the light off for 50 bucks.

I actually ended up unplugging the negative battery terminal for a while which cleared the light, and it hasn't been back in about 200 miles now.
