I would be down for a switch kit.
i can build just about anything and understand mechanical devices very well...but throw electricity in the mix and im instantly a ra-tard. |
Add me to the list for a bypass kit.
Thanks |

Did you permanently earth the parking brake sensor and if so have you seen any downsides of that approach. It has been so long I couldn't remember if we decided on switching the parking brake sensor and breaking the speed sensor circuit on one button or having the bypass circuit effectively permanent and having one switch do the reversing override and the other the speed sensor. |

Let me know if you have a solution to the light not coming on when the relay is activated. |

That is exactly what I have. Sorry for the number confusion. I am deployed to the field right now and working from a foggy memory!

It's been so long, I forgot about this. :ugh2:

Any updates on the "HI" light Brian? I have completed three installations of this configuration and all have the same issue. I am sure it is the relay in the path of the 12v switch output that is causing the light issues. Maybe a different relay or a micro relay would make a difference.
Not that it should matter, but I have tied the switch ground to the relay ground going to the same frame point. |

Can you post the diagram of how you have connected? I have a couple of thoughts: 1) Some relays have diodes across the coil to avoid bounce and that may be causing a problem. Normally it doesn't matter which way round the relay coil is connected in the circuit (85 + and 86 - or 85 - and 86 +) but if there is a diode in the relay and a diode (LED) in the switch that may be causing the problem. Have you tried wiring the coil both ways round? 2) When the feed from the switch doesn't go to the relay I'm assuming the "Hi" light does come on? What it you feed something other than the relay a 12V bulb for example? That would confirm the relay as the cause (or not). Thanks, Brian |
Good points, I will investigate and get back to you

Jeff's kit was installed successfully this morning and everything worked as planned. Forward ("Hi") position to enable DVD/NAV bypass and Backward ("Lo") for reversing camera over-ride.

worked like a charm on the first try. No more having to pull over to enter nav instructions, or having to yell repeatedly at the navigation. The voice activated navigation is actually pretty good when it comes to street addresses, but try searching for a business/restaurant etc, and its a nightmare. oh and the switch lights up when its pressed to 'hi' or 'low'
|
Was there still going to be a remote option?

Thanks Brian. Glad you're back. Do you have a time frame, and what was the price again?
|
Did you reverse the relay or is it a relay without a diode? Still haven't had a chance to play with mine.
|
So when will they be on sale I would like one.
Thanks David |

checked the relay and switched polarity...made no difference might try a different relay |
i think there is a bit of confusion about what is being lit up. when i press the switch in either direction 'hi' or 'low' lights up. however, the actual 'seat' in the middle, which is illuminated on the actual heated seat switches does not illuminate.
|
No confusion. The seat light is not connected on the switch. It is the "hi" light that does not come on on the setup with my relays. I have done three with the same results, same type of relay on each.

The first 5 kits based on the Nissan heated seat switch will be available for shipping on June 10th.
The first five users can pre-order here Bypass Kit for US MY2010 370z More kits will be available 1-2 weeks later. |
Queston, will your kit still work for the 2009? Noticed it's just labeled 2010. Also I don't have a rear camera. Are you still willing to include one for a little more? Thanks!
|
Am I dumb to think this will work with the 2011/Nav I just got?? Very interested and paypal ready

I would be happy to help with instructions if you are willing to cut two wires in the back of the AV unit. |

Placed my order, not sure what order I'm in.
Thanks David |
Hey Brian, when will the remote kits be ready? Sorry if I missed it in here.

Just to update everyone on the current status.
The 5 initial kits based on the heated seat switch and the plug and play harness were complete today (as planned). However, rather than ship today I'm going to ship on Monday because I want to complete some further testing with this being the first batch and shipping Sat vs Mon also probably making very little difference on the delivery date. Once these kits (or at least a couple of them) have been installed successfully I will be ready to offer the next batch which I will offer to non US customers also. At the same time I want to ship a remote based solution to one lucky member (I think you know who you are) before again offering more widely. |
Did I make the First 5

Simplest way to perform a complex mod!
Having reviewed the wiring harness manufactured by Brian, I must say it is a work of art! The ease of installation makes this mod difficulty a 1 out of 10. The only difficult part throughout the process is disassembling the dash! Total installation time with disassembly and reassembly should be less than an hour.
I have personally installed 3 NAV/DVD/Camera hack harnesses of my own construction which require the cutting of wires in the factory harness, soldering of diodes into place, more soldering of wires and a ton of heat shrink to accomplish the same task as Brian has done with a simple click of a harness. The harnesses I built took about 2 - 3 hours to make and then my installs typically took 1 - 2 hours, and I am electronics technician... +1000 to Brian for creating a super elegant, easy to install DIY mod for the masses that requires no electrical or technical experience. I know the many hours he takes in assembling these harnesses is a labour of love for us 370Z.com members because I'm sure the effort he is putting into this mod would not be a financially rewarding venture! Thanks Brian! Bottom line: If you have the camera harness from Brian, buy this complementary mod before Brian comes to his senses and finds a real life! |

Thanks for the comments by the way, I think that puts it in to perspective. |
