Interesting find.... the switch that is backordered for the 370Z (heated seat switch) is exactly the same as the 2010 Altima heated seat switch, which IS in stock most places...
The switch is also the same for the GTR, but the GTR switch is $300 and the Altima switch is $40. The 350Z switch I received as a replacement for the out of stock 370Z switch IS NOT the same top panel. It only has one light to indicate the seat is warming either low or high. Would not be the same look IMHO. I should have the correct switch by next week, due to Christmas and all.... Cheers! :happyholidays: |

Below is the testing rig ready to test the harnesses. http://lh6.ggpht.com/_MTz7DsmoaNs/TR...8/IMG_2245.JPG The way things are going with flights to the UK I might get to play with this sooner than the New Year |
Nice progress on this! I am excited for the NEW YEAR!!!!! not to mention it is close to driving seasons again:driving:

Part number for the Altima switch is:
Product SKU: 25500-L32001 http://www.courtesyparts.com/images/l32/l32_251-1.gif |
Picked up the seat heater switch today from the Altima. It is almost a perfect match. The HI LO windows are slightly shorter than the stock 370Z switches. Not a big issue for me because I would like them to be somewhat different looking of course.
I looked at the switch carefully and then took it apart to inspect the cap lettering. The lettering is actually SANDWICHED between the top clear lens and the rear fresnel lens. This means that the cap is actually molded together with the lettering in place making it all but impossible to remove the HI and LO symbols off the switch and still be able to use the lights. The reverse side of the cap is actually molded together with the lenses so that is not an option. The centre portion can be easily covered with a coat of matt black paint (I hope). Still thinking of a way to do the HI LO lights.... |
okay, after read 9 pages about choice of switch I still don't understand how this back-up camera system works?
Can someone eventually write a new post telling us with pics on which camera to use, where to mount, wiring harness installation and how the nav works with this setup. I'm confused with reading all the posts between the rear view mirror back up one & the rear back up camera using the nav system. I thought the back up camera for nav was not available?? |
This thread is for the bypass switch and harness assembly. The thread you want is regarding the backup camera harness and NAV tool kit for 09 models. Sorry I don't have the link handy on my iPhone.
I found it! http://www.the370z.com/audio-video/2...ew-camera.html |

with the sling player mobile ap... wecould theoretically watch TV in our car. not that i'd do that, but its just cool for a passenger or something. or at least to be like. parked at a light and be like 'oh i wanted to DVR that show.... let me just use my CAR to do it.

Picked up the flat black spray paint tonight. Looking forward to modding the switch this week!
|
Thought i'd crack this thread back open for 2011! Hiya bdl99, any eta update for the plug-n-play bypass harness? And will it work with Wheee's button?
|
Ohhh it works with the seat heater switch! No problems there.
Here is a teaser of the modded switch (and my homemade harness) PLEASE NOTE: This is a homemade harness and is nowhere NEAR as elegant as the harness that will be built by bdl99! The automotive connectors I used were to ensure I could plug and play the entire harness back to factory if I wanted to without unsoldering any connections. All connections that I made that were permanent were soldered and shrink wrapped. Switch with top unmasked http://www.the370z.com/members/wheee...top-lights.jpg Switch after flat black paint http://www.the370z.com/members/wheee...lack-paint.jpg AV Head end of harness. Notice diode in green wire taking power from ignition. Red wire taps back into the reverse signal line for 12v feed. Orange and brown wires break VSS at the switch. http://www.the370z.com/members/wheee...-wires-vss.jpg Switch end of harness minus switch and switch ground wire. Relay wired as: mmmi87 mmm87a 86mmmmm85 mmm30 87 is open and shielded. 87a is brown wire, 30 is orange (always on unless switch activated). 85 is ground and 86 is feed from switch to activate relay. Notice red wire feeding reverse signal has a diode in series to protect the circuit from back feeding. http://www.the370z.com/members/wheee...n-1-switch.jpg And a shot of the finished switch in place http://www.the370z.com/members/wheee...8-close-up.jpg and with the lights on (backup camera mode) http://www.the370z.com/members/wheee...287-lights.jpg |
There is already a plug and play solution for inputting & converting composite to component video to the harness behind the LCD screen. The problem is it isn't cheap because of the built in video converter.
I think being able to switch component video input into that plug and play harness would make more sense. If it is designed to be relay driven, another set of poles on the relay to switch audio inputs will do the trick. Doing the above would allow audio & video input from an iPod Touch or iPhone after purchasing the iPod to component cable from the Apple store. |

Since you are doing a plug and play soution, do you have a source for connectors to mate up with the stock ones? |

What about the Roadster. That spot is used for the raise/lower top toggle!
|
Roadster users use the remote key fob option.
|
I already carry two FOBs with me. Would be great if I could just have a switch mounted somewhere... there is another circle above the shifter that is seemingly empty... any possibility there? perfect spot for the passenger to press too!
|
If your roadster is an AT then the Synchro Rev button hole could be used with a single off-on switch. Would not be an elegant solution to use another type of switch to try and get the VSS off / camera on functions though...
|
so where we at with this BDL?

The status is I have all the parts to make both a remote and heated seat version. My plan is when I get back on Wed to make the kits and see if Jeff is willing to be the guinea pig again :) |
ok, thx for update....sorry to hear about the death in family.
|
My regards to you bdl99.

Missing pics in instructions
Yeah, I don't see the pics in the instructions posted on the opening of this thread? Are the instructions posted anywhere else?
|
You get a hard copy and a link (latest updates) to the instructions when you order your kit from Brian.
|
Ok, I'm in, where do I sign :-)
|
Maybe PM forum member bdl99 directly to organize it. That's Brian, though he may still be busy dealing with family matters as you can see above.

Yep, 2010 model, I was blessed to find a low milage 2nd hand model of the exact spec and colour I wanted locally, so somebody else paid my first years depreciation. :happydance:

Hi Brian,
firts off all my condoleances. I ust want to know the state of your work. As I post in december, I am in. Please eMail me the Price with shipping costs to France when the kit is available (Kit with seatheater switch and without the camera). |
Anyone?:wtf2:
|
So, is there any update we can get on this kit? Thanks!
|
Anyone?
|
Sorry guys, I have not had the time to follow through on this. I acquired 50 sets of AV connectors, one set of connector and heated seat switch, as well as building a test rig to test each kit, so I still want to do this but just not had the time. With work and family commitments I have been able to keep up with any backup camera kit demand, but the bypass kits require more time commitment.
Things have started to calm down a bit so I hope to be able to dedicate some time to this in the coming weeks. I hope (if Jeff is still in) to create a sample and install in Jeff's car. Once I've done that I should be able to steadily meet the demand. Thanks, Brian |
Just a forewarning Brian, it seems the heater switch "HI" light does not come on when forward advancing the relay to release VSS. I have experienced this on both harneses I built with both the Altima and 370Z seat heater switch. Maybe it doesn't like the relay and senses an open rather than closed circuit. Just a heads up... Mark

Brian & Mark...
You guys are amazing. I have been trying to bypass my nav in my avalanche off & on for a year now. Count me in for the full package when your ready Bryan. Do you recommend a specific brand camera or could you include one in your price? Thanks for the hard work! Erik |
