OK, so 3/3 will work. Numbered though, and I want #2. BUT NO MORE!!

What?!? Did someone say plaques? :roflpuke2:

Each seat warmer switch will be modified with a mod serial number so everyone will know your position in build series. Switch serial #1 for me!

jk

seriously.... you guys kill me!

BTW Brian, do you think you can get the female connector end to go into the seat warmer switch? If that is part of the harness we are laughing!

guys, i have a really good idea for the button solution. Its a button everyone loves pressing before they crash their Z

I'm in for the switched version please. I must have indicated that in the other thread. Thanks.

:icon18: Thats a good idea. Thinking about it, with that off you probably shouldn't be playing with the NAV or watching a DVD :)

wheee! 12-04-2010 10:31 AM

The Verify Door is Closed or VDC button already serves an important purpose and without it how would the car know the door is closed? Engage immediately upon closing your doors....

djpathfinder 12-04-2010 11:17 AM

Could always wire it to the hazard lights button. It'll warn people to be careful as you're driving and operating the nav/watching the DVD at the same time. :driving:

yea no kiddin....i'd be impressed if they could work these functions into the cruise control buttons on the steering wheel. Instead of changing ecu maps, it will turn on rearview camera!

wheee! 12-04-2010 08:35 PM

I'll just be happy to be able to have my passenger enter address info while driving. I ran into the issue today in my Lincoln and I was so frustrated to have to stop the car to enter the info.
Bring on the Hack! At least driving the Z I won't have to deal with this issue anymore....

That could be arranged, I was actually thinking about maybe a key combination with existing switches. The downside is it would require a little more work but a fairly simple circuit.

You're missing the point! Everyone asks what the blank space is for in the console.... I have to get rid of the blank space!!!! (no OCD tendencies here...)

And I was looking forward to saying that all you need to do is press select three times quickly and then while holding select press UP - Left - Left - Down - Right :)

Aren't you afraid you might go blind?

AK, can we have this thread moved to NSFW premium section? I think we're 2 posts away from that. LOL

wheee! 12-06-2010 08:00 AM

But seriously folks. Back on topic.

Brian! What's the status of the Nav DVD Camera Harness Hack? Do we have a solution in the seat heater switch or have you found something else that will work? Connectors? Have you sourced the plug ends yet?

See what happens when you leave us to our own devices?! Ooops. here we go again...

I have sourced the connectors for the AV unit (male and female - I'm sure there is a joke there somewhere)

The heated seat switch will work, but I'm will need to make a little circuit (transistor or relay).

Not found a source for the connector for the heated switch button but not really spent any time on that. I'm hoping that if we cant find a single connector that we can use a individual connectors for each of the 6 pins.

So you are thinking of a relay or circuit to enable vss off in the forward position instead of vss on? That would make sense.

As for the individual pins to the switch, I am fine with that...

Correct on the relay. On the second point I think I may have found the connector for the switch but will need to order one to be sure.

Before I get carried away I want to check on the budget side of things. The harness is actually bigger than the backup camera one with 32 pins vs 24 pins and therefore more time consuming to make (and the backup camera one wasn't quick).

I think the harness is going to come it at about $100 (maybe a little more) and then remote solution will add about $50 and the heated seat switch, connector and relay circuit will be about the same ~$50. $150 for the kit (either switch or remote_ seems expensive to me when it could be achieved for a lot less, but just not plug and play but that is what it is going to take for a plug and play solution.

What do you guys think?

dixon cider 12-06-2010 07:02 PM

I'm still in for the remote!! Limited Edition numbered 2 of 3!! :icon17:

wheee! 12-06-2010 07:24 PM

Sounds about right. You are going to a lot of time and trouble to create this harness solution so I think people will be willing to compensate you appropriately for your efforts.

Any thoughts on how to mod the switch top so it doesn't look like a seat heater?! I would like to get a blank rocker top with pilot lights if possible, but that would require access to the manufacturer I guess.

price sounds right, as long as it includes 2 spicy chicken sandwhiches and some halloween candy

N8GTOL 12-06-2010 11:16 PM

Brian - the solution your working sounds good and we all appreciate the hard work and the good quality you've delivered so far. The price is at the high end for me...I was thinking it would fall under $100...but its not yet a deal breaker at $150 considering the complications coming to light. Your camera kit was top notch so I hope the price point on this doesn't drive the demand away.

What would the price difference be if there was a partial kit/DIY that could use the same type of switch/remote but may require some splicing?

the whole thing with this kit is just that it takes him a long time to make each one, hence the cost is higher.

wheee! 12-07-2010 08:05 AM

Ya. The labour is the issue on this kit as he is going to be building this wire loom by hand and there are a considerable number of wires that will need to be inserted into each end of the harness, plus the switch/remote configuration.

Keep in mind people, this is a kit that would take a tech a couple of hours to install in a shop ($150 labour there) plus at least a couple of hours to assemble by an electronics tech (wire loom, connectors, config $150) plus parts ($50-$75)

Brian needs a reason to do this other than the goodness of his heart....
