Please help! Will these speakers/subs fit and sound good?

Hi all. Receiving my 370Z in the next week or so. After reading many threads, you all seem to say that on a Base car, upgrading the stock speakers means only two component speakers plus two tweeters in front, plus a sub. Below is the setup I would like to buy (because I bought the Pioneer BT90 head unit, and would like everything from the same brand):

TS-C720PRS component speaker set (6 3/4" speakers, 1 1/8" tweeters, 2 crossover boxes)

2 x TS-SW841D (8" slim sub) and 2 x UD-SW8U (underseat sub enclosures, 9 1/4" x 11 3/4" x 5 3/4")

Amplifier: NO IDEA!

I am not an audiophile, so I am looking for a good set of speakers, amps, and subs for around $700.

So, here are my questions:

1) Is it true I only need two components, two tweeters, and a sub (plus whatever amps and crossovers necessary)

2) Will all of the above items fit in the Z (exact specs are on the pioneerusa.com site)? Will the sub enclosures fit okay under the seats?

3) Are 2 8-in. subs okay, or should I do something else? Where should I put the sub/subs? Keep in mind I'm not a bass freak, just want 7-series Harman/Kardon levels of bass, perhaps slightly more. I just want good, clean sound, and want the system to last a long time (5 years+).

4) If the above setup is not good in your opinion, what would you suggest?

5) Considering I'm also having the BT90 head unit, PAC controller, rear camera full system, hd radio, and sat radio modules installed, what will be a fair total install price I should expect for the system (not including cost of the items already listed, so basically labor and cables and misc. parts)? I don't want to be ripped off!

6) Would I be able to save money by finding an independent installer in my area? If so, are there any sites for this?

Any and all help you could give me would be much appreciated. I just want to get this install done quickly and at a fair price, with minimal hassle and years of reliability.

Since the 370Z is recently released it might prove best to wait a bit and allow some of the larger sound houses to develop some suggestions after they have gone over the 370Z.

FOR EXAMPLE: ( I have base Stereo )

my changes are as follows.....might change a bit but here is a rough idea.

Kenwood Headunit - w/nav and Sirus abilites = $635.00

2 Door speakers Focul ( 6'5 with tweeters 1' = 399.00

AMP = 199.00

I Boston G210SS woofer = 129.00

Wire kits/harness = $150.00

Labout to install = $550.00

Total on this is about $1800 to $2000.

You are not going to hear me coming down the street, but should sound pretty good inside the cab.

Thats expensive for an install! are you getting custom fiberglass done or something? I went to the best car audio installer in my area (San Diego), and to install the head unit, replace the tweeters and 6.5 components was I was quoted only 95 bucks.

Maybe the sub installation will be more...I didnt want to remove my spare tire for good, so i dont know what that will run.

I get my car on April 14, getting it installed same day.

Well I am glad you mentioned that. Now I feel comfortable negotiating that amount (down). Thank you.

I had two 8" subs in a custom made enclosure in my 1990 300ZX. It sat right where the briefcase or parcel shelf was. It rocked! Two 8"s can hit pretty hard and deep, if done right, but the key is the right 8" sub and matching it to the right enclosure with adequate power. I am not familiar with those under seat enclosures you reference.

Hi, thanks for the initial responses. But could someone answer my other, non-labor cost questions above?

Let me know if the enclosures will fit under the seat, and if the speakers will fit in the factory door locations without modification. For example, are 6 3/4" speakers and 1 1/4" tweeters too big? I want to reduce install costs.

Finally, what is the correct Pioneer amp for these speakers and subs? Will I need more than one amp?

No offense. You're asking a majority of owners who haven't even started upgrading their audio systems yet, and the car has been out 3 months. A few owners took matters in their own hands and did the install themselves, and the rest hired a local installer who never worked on a 370Z before either (first for everything). That's not enough to tell you what the possibilities are. Labor costs vary by shops, so we can't simply tell you the costs. IMO, $550 is too much. I've seen simple installations costing $50, but that doesn't mean you can find it in your locale.

Anyone who do their own installations are pretty much guinea pigs right now. Heck, even my local installers aren't aware of the 370Z let alone have immediate access to the service manual.

You can't assume people will spoon feed and give you answers about your car without taking a look at it yourself.

For example, I have all of my audio components purchased and ready to be installed with the 370Z. I've done lots of research and derived knowledge from the 350Z.

The car is too new and the best we can do is provide you some audio experience and ball park figures closely related to tried and true 350Z audio builds.

So take it as it is. You're in the group of "firsts" to pursue an audio upgrade project on your 370Z, so we're pretty much in your shoes and are willing to learn from those who attempted the install themselves. Take some pride with your project, enjoy, and do some research on your own. We'll provide you the best of our knowledge, but you can't force it out of the community. Patience...

When I start working on my installations, I will try to provide information and photos. My components are stored until the car arrives. From the looks of it, the 370Z audio install is so much easier than the 350Z due in part it doesn't require special adapters for double-din installations. The only catch is the speaker box.

The car is too new and no one has speaker boxes for it. Since I don't have the car, I asked another member to estimated trunk dimensions. This is purely DIY at the moment.

I don't even have the car so I can't give you any facts, but with some searching I found other owners have confirmed 6.5" for the doors and at least 1" tweeter.

You've got to research this stuff. We're doing this on our own as well. Much of the stuff has been asked many times, and you can find answers using the forum search. Without the search button, the same question will be asked over and over again.

I would suggest the DIY subforum for some pictures and information posted from other owners in regards to their stereo installation.

Enjoy!!! I wish I had my Z so I can do work on it as well.

Dont do pre-manufactured subs! Always go custom if you want better bass. I would opt for a single 10 instead of (2) 8s to save costs. A single 10 will more than do the job and in a few months there will be a plethora of drop in custom enclosures for this car that will be inexpensive.

I would however rethink the speakers and head unit you are looking at. I would go alpine and get a full double din head unit and some Type-R component speakers and power them off the deck. Get a small alpine sub amp to drive a single 10. You can have a killer system for under a grand that would blow "ANY" factory system out of the water.

For a sub, JL Audio all the way. Thier new 10W0 sub would be perfect and cheap too. Plus they make nice subwoofer grills to protect the driver.

the best thing you can do for this is to read. Read everything and anything on speakers, and head units. Then make the choice for yourself.

I plan to get some nice 3-4way 6.5s for the front, nice tweeters, You dont have to buy a component package to do this. Buy some good 4's for the back and put a bass blocker on each speaker. When you do this you get nothing but pure audio and no bass. Let the bass come from your sub and 6.5's.

As for the sub and the box? Well yeah you are going o have to wait, but seriously someone who owns a Z could give you the size of the trunk, and then you could just run with that.

plenty of pictures online and even a video to give you some ideas on what the trunk looks like.

While the car is still new, there is enough info out there and common sense in order to build your own system.
