Default New Audio Install for my Nismo....help appreciated

Ok guys and gals, I have had my Nismo less than a month and I going to go forth with the following audio upgrades…

• Kenwood DNX9960 or the DNX6960 (Can someone please give me a pros and cons that may sway my decision?) (Amazon has the 9960 for $1219 and the 6960 goes for $789)
• Kenwood CMOS-300 for the rear view cam (on Amazon for $257)
• Kenwood KCA-IP301V iPod Video Direct Cable
• PAC SWIJACK Steering Wheel Remote Interface
• Alpine PDX-5 for the amp
• Focal Polyglass 165 CVX for the door speakers
• JL Audio 13TW5 for the sub
• Magic Box from Wicked CAS (I had a Mazdaspeed6 and used their Magic Box for it and I loved it) (I had the box shipped over here to San Antonio and checked to see if it was a flush fit, but it wasn’t…hit or miss problem with the Nismos…. So if anyone in their (Wicked CAS) area has a Nismo… please get you’re a$$ over there to get a free box so I can get mine!)
• 20 sheets of 18x32 (80 sq. ft.) of Cache Dead Shield for some sound deadening (also from Wicked CAS at a very reasonable price)
o I have downloaded the service manual and I am excited to gut my baby the proper way with door panel and trim removal tools instead of bare hands that I used to do the same to my Mazdaspeed6 which broke so many snaps and cut my fingers and hands up real good

I have some questions for you guys…

• What other things am I missing for this install? Feel free to share.
• Would you recommend putting 4” speakers in the back?
• Would the Alpine 5 channel amp be sufficient to push the 4 speakers and the sub?
• Would laying the dead shield material all over the car surface hinder putting the panels back on? I have no problem doubling up on the material either if it wont really matter.
• If you have any other tidbits and tips, I would be greatly appreciated.

To BigAudiofanat… I would give my left nut to live in NJ… not because of you but because of the NY Giants! No… but I would love to utilize your expertise on this install any day.

Does the Alpine amp have a sufficient enough crossover built in for the sub? Are you planing on using the crossovers that come with the front components? If not you may need something like a stand alone Audio Control crossover.

I would say no on the 4" rears. Keep your highs in the front and the lows in the rear.

First up you can get that camera cheaper else where. Take a look around.

Second change the pac to the metra much easier to install and faster.

Great amp and great components. For the sub its a JL so I could say something but I will leave it.

Kicker hyperflex 4 gauge amp wiring kit. Amazon you only need the single amp one.

One set of stinger 3 set rca cables 16ft will do also amazon.

I HIGHLY am against rear speakers ask any of the installs I have done or others they are not needed some will want them but I do not see them as something useful.

Those focals like power I would leave the 4 channels to bridge to power them.

You get two other people to get installs in TX I will come out and do them.

Austin... I will not have components in the doors... just 6.5s

And no-go on the 4s in the rear... thanks

I will look around for a cheaper CMOS-300 but Im a little skeptical. We shall see..

Check on the PAC
I have read your thoughts on the slim line JL's so thanks for holding your tongue.
Check on the Kicker amp wiring kit and the stinger 3 set RCA cables

So four bridged channels for the Focals and the other one running the sub?

I have started a new thread asking for San Antonio citizens if they are interested.

Thanks for the quick response brother

Just so I understand your components, you are going with 6.5" coaxs in the doors and a 13" sub?

I think they all have nav anymore from kenwood. Alpine has a few without nav that can use a rear camera.

iXA-W404 - Alpine 2-DIN 4.3-inch QVGA Touchscreen iPhone Compatible Car Reciever

Or the iXA-W407 which will give you more features.

Default So far....

Well folks… this is the spending I have done today:

• Kenwood DDx896 for $658 on ebay
• Kenwood CMOS-300 for $243 on ebay
• Alpine PDX-5 for 339.95 on ebay
• Kenwood KCA-IP301V for 27.97 on Amazon
• Metra Axxess ASWC Universal Steering Wheel – 45.89 on Amazon

I already got my baby some new shades (tint) and since she is growing up so fast, I had to get her a bra (Clearbra). Now project "Singing lessons for my Negra" is in effect! Who knew being a single father could be so rewarding!

Bigaudiofanat… I tried to search for the kicker hyperflex amp wiring kit but was confused because I came up with two different ones… can you post a link for the correct one, as well as the Stinger 3 set RCA cables?

Thanks guys

Sounds like you are going to make quite the system there.

Since <some> seem hesitant about the JL 13", I'll post up some alternatives.

DB Drive actually makes decent products. its a new company, most likely out of China; but they are probably making some decent stuff for what I can tell, and for good prices. The company has won several DB and SQL competitions recently. They make a 12" woofer that is shallow-mount and you can check it out here:

db Drive

Another shallow mount is Pioneer; for which I am partial to because I own a shallow 10". They are about 3" mounting depth in both 10" and 12" form; meaning you can likely keep your spare tire. Pioneer USA - Home. My little 10" flat piston Pioneer is currently stuffed into a .2cu sealed box - it barely fits the magnet - and sounds beautiful; sacraficing sound efficiency in favor of trunk space. Its actually embarassed a few systems.

As for Pioneer, if you like the stuff you can get it all from Amazon and use a 30% off coupon I posted several days back. The Amazon coupon code for Pioneer discounts is VRCBKCX6. Im not sure if its still active...

Dont use rear speakers.

Also, the Metra Axxess works well enough; I posted some procedures here if you care to take a look.

Get the Axxess ASWC working - All buttons

As for amps, well; I am partial for the old Class AB circa 1990s. You can probably pick up some Hifonics (Made by Zed), Orion HCCA, or Precision power Art or Powerclass series for the same or even less than cheap new amps today. Ive actually found that these old amps are selling for dimes on the dollar of what they used to be worth; meanig you can get a $500 amp from the 90s for less than $100. I got a PPI PC2150 (150x2 rms at 4ohms) for $80 off Craigslist; this amp costed $600 brand new; and they sound phonomenally good and clean at the cost of drawing more power.

Now you are talking my language! I currently have a 4x75w black HCCA, and have had great luck with both PPI and "gernade" style Punch amps. I have a friend looking to sell me a gernade Punch 200 for $100.

Sorry, back on topic.
