Suggestions needed for Subwoofer Upgrade

I was going to pic up one by Wicked C.A.S. but after thinking about the $450.00 and all the installs and boxes I did in the past,I'm going to make a flush mount .325-.350 cu ft box in the spare tire well(material undecided at this point)one thing I always like to do after I'm done I take it to my local Line-X bed liner place have them place the box upside down and shoot it with the bed liner stuff it adds protection and seals the box well then I carpet the top.

Yea they are expensive, fiberglass time and make your own.

This would be best, box goes where you want and you don't waste space with thick MDF.

Yeah glass takes time but I think I have found a way to get .35cu ft using MDF and still remain flush,lucky for me that my car is a weekend driver only and occupies a 2 car garage by itself so I have plenty of time to build this.

I know how to use fiberglass (we use it at my work auto body)but I really think I can swing the MDF it will be tight but that's what I want so I have very little movement in the spare tire well.

actually I rechecked and the box would be more like .45-.50cu ft.

That would cover most shallow 10's, giver!

Someone did a MDF a while back and it came in close to .35, if my memory is correct. He stacked cut out circles of 3/4 inch MDF to create the enclosure. It was loaded with a 10" Pioneer thinline. Jeff Smith measured the internal volume of the spare cavity and it was .64 .... more info here:

Yeah I know of him he used glass which will yield you a little more room(I personally don't like using it)but with the MDF I have a little freedom elsewhere,the box that I'm making is a stacked ring set up too,but if you look at the people who have made them the rings are too thick,cutting down on volume plus I seen one that the bottom was on top of the spare tire hold down bolt mine will go to the bottom of the spare tire.

It is allot of extra work but I have the time and patience and I want it to like it was suppose to come that way from Nissan.

Yup I made one just like that for my 280z spare tire well. I used my router to cut out the rings stacked and glued it all together worked well, till it got wet somehow anyway swelled and split. That was a long time ago though, I would do the bed liner trick if I were to do it again.

Yea, I look forward to seeing the finished product. I think this is the way to go for the DIYer......... and the bedliner trick would finish it off nicely.

Just make sure the sub will "work" in that small of a box, some shallow subs need a little more. and don't forget to take the volume displacment of the sub.
