Your phone will still act like a phone after the conversion, and accept voice commands from the car, it will just allow you to play music as well.

This is my guess as to what is missing, this is what I have to do on my 2016, otherwise I can't play music either.

idk how to upload pictures but after i hit my phone i only get a menu with select edit or delete.
hitting edit only allows me to change the pho e name...like i said i think i need the disc :'(

In that menu you choose select, that's normal.

Dude! Thank you so much. I was having the same issue. I thought I needed the firmware update as well, but there was no way I was paying for it. I just went out to my car and switched it over to Audio Device and boom. OP, it should definitely work for you. I had to play around with it first. I can make step by step instructions for you if need be.
