In the car, under Bluetooth, Then Connected Devices, Choose Audio Player:
Your phone should show up, select it and it will ask if you want to convert it to an audio player. Select yes.
Your phone will still act like a phone after the conversion, and accept voice commands from the car, it will just allow you to play music as well.
This is my guess as to what is missing, this is what I have to do on my 2016, otherwise I can't play music either.
