The CMC is attached to the clutch pedal. When you push the clutch pedal down, the piston in the CMC is pushed in also, disengaging the clutch. When you let go of the clutch pedal, the CSC causes the pedal to spring back up. It really is a simple hydraulic system.

However, why Nissan decided to put the CSC inside the transmission housing is beyond me. Normally it's easily accessible from the outside. That being said, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The CMC isn't known to be trouble prone, like the junky CSC.
