For everyone unfamiliar with these they are a wireless device that plugs into your OBDII port and transmitts useful information directly to your phone. You can check out the full listing on our website HERE.

We can also get the similar Wifi version for Iphone users. HERE.

Hi Guys,

Just got my Kiwi PLX, with downloaded Rev2 software , but it does not seem to be reading the ECU - the only obvious thing it reads is the car voltage, other than that all gauges show what appears to be a default reading. Any advice?

PS: 2009 370Z with SC

FYI I've been using a PLX Kiwi for months now. I'm an Android rather than iPhone user. I use Torque as my default OBD-II gauge application and fault code scanner, and I've also used it with track datalogging apps (e.g. aLapRecorder HD). Works great for both.

I tried a cheap knockoff adapter first (this one), and while it "mostly worked most of the time", it wasn't really reliable for datalogging/gauges like the slightly more expensive PLX Kiwi is. Ended up giving the cheapy adapter to a friend who just wanted it to read fault codes occasionally.

Anyways, summary is: buy a PLX Kiwi if you have a smartphone and want better data on your car

The voltage may not come over OBD-II, one of the virtual PIDs is the voltage as read by the adapter on the OBD-II Vcc pin itself. Are you getting a CAN connection at all? Not sure what diagnostics Rev2 shows, but it should be able to establish a link to our car using the CAN 29-bit 500kbaud protocol. Did your SC kit include some kind of custom ROM or replacement ECU?

I still have the standard ECU. I also have tried a Scangauge 2, but same result - it does not connect.

When I plug the Kiwi PLX or scangauge 2 into my Chevy UTE, both work. On the 370Z neither appear to be connecting. With the Kiwi on the Chevy the ECU number comes up on the iphone - on the 370Z nothing comes up.

I tried the devices on my mates 370Z, which is stock standard - same result.

I spoke to the Nissan dealers, but no advice. My 370Z is a JDM spec.

I am running the Kiwi with Android software on an Epic 4g. Torque is a great app that keeps getting better for ODBII output data, it also has a video with dash overlay plug in for recording track runs.

I also have a scanguage II which I could plug in to the z and test if you need a 2nd opinion. I know that on my 2005 Toyota MR2 I had to use a non-CAN cable with the SGII because the CAN cable caused the ABS light to come on.

Maybe there is something similar going on - but the Kiwi should work.

^ There's the problem. If your car was actually imported from Japan (as in, it's a Japan DM model), then it doesn't have to comply with OBD-II and usually doesn't. They have their own "JOBD" standard. If you dig around on the net, you'll find that some (but certainly not all) tools claim JOBD-compatibility. Most likely the Kiwi and the Scangauge don't (at least, not for Nissans of this model year).

Thanks for the feedback.

Interesting that Osiris and Cipher works with their bespoke cable that only has 5 pins.

I can do full data logging and reflashes with their cable.

But nothing else works.

Tjaartk,
Sorry the delay in responding back. I have been digging around trying to find a solution to your issue. From what I can tell, the PLX device should work regardless of the fact it is a JDM model. At around 2007, nearly all Asian auto manufacturers adopted the US Spec OBD II model.

From talking with PLX, there may be some JDM-only issues that may causing the complication withe the device.

Check out the following link:
PLX Devices OBD Compatibility

You Z should use the ISO 9141-2 setup. Take a look at your OBD connection under your dash and see if the correct pins have wires running into them.

Based on what PLX states, some non-US spec models will have multiple OBD protocols running at the same time. This can confuse the PLX Kiwi device and prevent it from operating properly.

Let me know what you find out!

Thanks Dustin,

I have pins 4,5,6,7,8,14 and 16 populated.

I see pin 8 is a vendor option. I can start by deleting this one first.

I gues this makes our 370z Can Bus protocol.

I also see my Osiris cable only has 4,6,7,14 and 16 active.

I must say that 7 doesn't make sense to me because it is an ISO connector.

If deleting 8 doesn't work, I will move onto 7. (will have to sacrifice one of the Scangauges to test)

How does that sound to you?

Thanks for your help

Tjaartk,
I just checked our '09 Touring Sport shop 370Z as well as a few other G35's, 350Z's and another 370Z that was in the shop.

The '09 USDM 370Z uses the same PINS as your car: 4,5,6,7,8,14 & 16

The only difference between a 350Z (VQ35DE) and a 370Z OBD connection port is the inclusion of PIN #3.

I am confused as to why the KIWI is not working since the PINS and Protocols should be the same.

Deleting 8 MIGHT work. But I do not think deleting 7 will be beneficial. Keep me posted and let me know. I will keep digging around on my end.

Hi,

Just a quick question for you... Is it possible to get a 'GTR type display' with the PLX Devices on my Twin Turbo'd 370Z..? I would like all possible sensors and access to as much data as possible on the inbuilt display.. ALSO, is there any way or device to allow full scanning of all systems for fault codes with this setup..?

Thank you very much for your time, I look forward to your reply..

James
