Tire size on stock wheels

As you'll soon find out, I know just enough about tire sizes to be dangerous.

I've got a 2010 Roadzter and will soon be replacing the original tires. The fronts are 225/50 R18s and the rears are 245/45 R18s. I am keeping the stock wheels now that I've PlastiDipped (looks awesome BTW), but I'd like to know what tire sizes people suggest. I'm considering buying Bridgestone Potenza Pole Positions, but am thinking about going a little wider width and a little thinner sidewalls.

So the question is-would 245/40 R18s work on the front and 265/35 R18s work on the rear? Also, would that drive and look good?

Unless he's referring to the Potenza S04 Pole Position tires. They're $800 for the set from Tire Rack.

Grind and Mac, thanks for the interesting reading. I was referring to the Bridgestone RE970AS that Grind provided the reference to. Sounds like they're good tires for the price. Do you think there will be an issue going to a wider tire width and thinner sidewall? I know enough to know what the numbers mean, but not enough to know if the extra inch(ish) width will still fit on the wheel and whether the half inch less of sidewall will make the wheel wells look ridiculously empty.

The S04s consistently rate toward the top of the heap in that summer performance tire category, and they're cheaper than the RE970AS. The S04s are a better deal IMHO unless you're looking for a slightly better all-season tire or looking for a better wear rating. Note that you will sacrifice some performance for those two things. The better wear rating may offset the fact that they're more expensive, but not the performance difference IMHO. If I were going to try to drive the car year 'round here in Minnesota, I'd have sumer tires and dedicated snow tires like Blizzaks, not try to get by on a tire that is going to come with compromises in either season.

I just put 245/45's on the front and 275/40's on the rear of my 2011 370z...looks good and so far they feel good under the car..
