Lug Nuts - The definitive guide

Hey guys,

I know the stock Rays use a mag style lug but has anyone tried any adaptors like this:

Gorilla 79916 $2.99 Lug Nut Washers Tapered/Flat Adapter Style

Wouldn't this allow aftermarket lugs on stock wheels and still be safe??

i guess my biggest concern would be how many threads the tapered lugs would lose due to the adapter thickness?

if the tapered lugs can have at least 10mm of thread then that could work if the lugs are steel. not sure about those duraluminum lugs. they strip pretty easily.

I know. I guess my only concern would be the stud length. Would there still be enough stud for proper safety?

It took me a good while to find something like this lol

Edit: thickness seems to be 0.20"-0.30" depending on adapter.

yah... considering most applications allows up to 5mm spacers (spacers between hub and wheel) for steel lugs, i think they would work. i just can't say for sure.

wat im saying is if those adapters are less than 5mm thick at the base of the tapered contact area, it is the same as putting on a max 5mm spacer.

DISCLAIMER: the above post was only for explanation.

this is NOT to be confused as saying running 5mm spacers on the factory hubcentric wheels is okay. that is NOT okay. only time one can use max 5mm spacers without stud replacement is on tapered lug wheels (which are lug-centric) and 10mm or more threads for steel lugs. even that is not recommended for track use.

Ok. I get what your saying but what is the degree of taper of the head on aftermarket lugs so that they seat properly?

The one adapter is only 0.20' (5.08mm) thick and has a small shank to fit inside but the seat is only 45 deg taper. The original one I linked is 0.25'' (6.35mm) but at 60 deg taper for the seat, so this might be close

I would buy a few to tryout cause they have a no hassle return policy but I don't have aftermarket lugs.

Im hoping these will be a game changer for ppl with stock sport rays and want aftermarket lugs! .....like myself

Ah okay... after little research, the 2 piece Kics lug nut's body is made of cold forged SCM-435 which is alloy steel while the taper seat is made of A7075-T6 aluminum and ultra-hard aluminite finish.

Unfortunately I have tried to get the gorilla 60 deg seat lug adaptors that I linked but since I live in Canada shipping is just ridiculous for one washer to test. I even called and asked to have then just throw a washer in an envelope and use regular letter mail. No go.

Can anyone in the USA order one and test fit? I'm willing to send like $5 to anyone who can.
